100 Years Ago, a Pnong Youth Lived in Kratie, But His Place May Be in Mondulkiri Today
A century ago, a young Pnong boy roamed the lands of Kratie province. Today, though his ancestors may have called Kratie home, his place may lie in what we now know as Mondulkiri.

In 1961, a royal decree by King Norodom Sihanouk carved out a new province from Kratie, christened Mondulkiri. This region, originally known as Chhlong Leu, was the ancestral home to many Pnong communities.

So, while the young Pnong boy from 100 years ago belonged to Kratie province, his place may be within the bounds of present-day Mondulkiri. This shift in borders highlights the dynamic nature of history and the complex relationship between land, identity, and belonging.
