Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF MOMBASA

Dear Mombasa,

Mombasa is what it is today because of its people; Mombasa is a great county built by the various communities of Kenya. Mombasa is home to all of us - every religion, every ethnicity, every background, we all belong here.

There have been prophets of doom who have come and tried to seek office by sowing seeds of divisions and hate. I am so proud of Mombasa because we have shown that we are better than this. We have shown that we value our unity and cohesion and these prophets of doom have been rejected in the campaigns and will be rejected at the polls on Tuesday.

As your incoming Governor, I am indebted to the leaders who came before me. Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and others. Those who have stood firm on principle and have shown us that it is possible for Kenyans to elect you because of good character and vision. I have campaigned without insulting or abusing anyone. What I have to offer is my promise of good governance and my vision for a new Mombasa.

A vote for Abdulswamad is a vote to revive your city’s economy.

A vote for Abdulswamad is a vote to bring jobs back to Mombasa.

A vote for Abdulswamad is a vote to protect and care for the most vulnerable in society.

A vote for Abdulswamad is a vote to bring Mombasa back to its feet.

I humbly ask you to vote for me so that I can put into place all the promises I have made to you. Don’t be left behind, vote for a new Mombasa.

Elections are a chance to make your voice heard. In Mombasa, in the 2017 election, only 60% of us came out to vote. We lost the chance to make our voice heard at the national level. We lost the chance to make Mombasa count. We cannot continue miss out.

On Tuesday, we must all wake up to vote. The earlier the better. And it is important not just to vote but to make sure everybody in your home who is registered to vote, does so. Check on your cousins and your friends and your parents and your children. Make sure everybody votes in Mombasa. Look out for the ink on the finger, make sure everybody has it!

I have heard some people saying that Raila Odinga has already won and Abdulswamad has already won. It is true that we have won but we need you to vote otherwise the victory will not come to pass. Don’t think your vote does not matter - you matter! Raila Odinga needs you. I need you. Let’s do this together; our moment is now!

WHY IS UHURU NOT CAMPAIGNING FOR HIS HANDSHAKE BROTHER RAILA?

President Uhuru Kenyatta has changed tack in the battle for nearly five million votes in 15 battleground counties.

After attending the launch of the Azimio la Umoja, it was expected that the President would start vote hunting for the coalition nominee Raila Odinga.

But Mr Kenyatta allies have indicated that he would not hit the campaign trail, just yet. The President also missed the unveiling of the Azimio la Umoja Kenya One running mate Martha Karua on Monday, although he was said to be out of the country.

But yesterday, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe termed it a tactical retreat to allow the Azimio aspirant run his campaigns.

“Uhuru has set the ball rolling. Everything is in place, but the President will not be on the ground to campaign. His absence during the unveiling of Raila’s running mate does not speak to issues in Azimio, but was calculated to have the aspirant run his campaign,” said Mr Murathe.

He said President Kenyatta will be running the show from behind the scene, and had unleashed the Jubilee Party machinery to campaign for Raila.

The party Director of Elections Kanini Kegasaid at an opportune time, Mr Kenyatta will come out to beat the drum for the Azimio team. “We are an advance team; we’re already on the road marketing Raila. When time is ripe Uhuru will be on the ground,” said the Kieni MP.

Other sources say some of the President’s political advisers were cautious of dragging him into the political mud of campaigns as he heads to retirement.

Instead, they prefer the use of delegations, opinion leaders and point men from across the country.

While opening the 9th Africities Summit in Kisumu, President Kenyatta, unlike in previous trips to the city, did not join Raila in street rallies.

In April, Mr Kenyatta had promised that when the time comes, he would be on the ground to turn the tide in favour of the Azimio presidential aspirant, especially in Mt Kenya region.

While addressing congregants at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa in Kandara, Murang’a County on April 14, the President hit out at those opposed to his involvement in his succession politics.

“There are those who think I would not be on the campaign trail. They should hold their horses. They will see me traversing the country telling the people my truth, where do they think they can take me? I am also a Kenyan and have my democratic rights,” he said.

Since the “handshake” in March 2018, President Kenyatta has enjoyed a cordial relationship with the ODM leader, which eventually morphed into a coalition.

Deputy President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza Alliance brigade have repeatedly branded Raila a State project, and have sought to associate the former prime minister with Jubilee failures. The narrative has in the past forced Raila to defend himself, claiming that from time to time, he has been his own man.

The president’s absence from the campaigns leaves Dr Ruto and Mr Odinga to square it out in the remaining 81 days as they try to win the battlegrounds.

Going by the 2013 and 2017 elections, if both Dr Ruto and Mr Odinga replicate victories in their strongholds, the DP will garner more votes in Rift Valley and Mt Kenya while Raila will take the lead in his Nyanza backyard, Western and Coast regions.

Buoyed by their respective running mates, Dr Ruto has segmented the country into nine regions while Raila has stratified it into 12 units for ease of campaigns. It is this rationale the leaders are following while signing deals with respective communities.

While unveiling his running mate on Saturday, Dr Ruto named politicians who will be in charge of the nine regions.

The battlegrounds include Kwale with 320,782 votes, Tana River (137,661), Lamu (79,157), Garissa (207,435), Wajir (196,466), Mandera (211,098), Marsabit (164,864), Isiolo 86,143, Kitui (532,267), Machakos (690,243), Makueni (474,493).

Others are Turkana (241,583), Samburu (98,081), Narok (397,618), Kajiado (463,546) Trans Nzoia 395,741 and Nairobi (2,505,199), bringing the vote count to about 4,697,178.

WHY ODM WILL LOSE BUSIA COUNTY.

Busia County, a region with rich voting history that has been for long been dominated by the opposition's ODM seems to have taken a different turn. Historically, Busia has been voting for Raila Odinga to the last man, a gesture that has kept Jakom's roots tight in the soils of the rich border county. However, on the run up to 2017, dynamics changed and the monopoly that has been enjoyed by ODM appeared to have come to an end.

UDA, a new political party that came to the lime light barely two years ago has quickly spread in the Western Counties like an ancient plaque, swiping Busia County to it's political oblivion. With the young turks like Budalangi's General Ababu Namwamba, Samia's Susan Mang'eni, Matayos' Joe Khalende and Teso North's John Imoite, ODM's dominance in the county has become a thing of the past. William Ruto's UDA Party is the second largest in the county, driving away ODM as it embraces Musalia Mudavadi's ANC. This comes after in fightings in ODM county's leadership that saw a lot of members opting out of the party and joining UDA.

Just as Ababu Namwamba brought ODM's Populance in the county, that's the same way he brought UhuRuto's Jubilee Party in Busia and made it famous and the second most loved. Now with the same Namwamba as the UDA captain in the region, it is expected that from Bunyala and all across the county, UDA will have most political offices in Busia County and across Western.

With the arrogant tribalist and chest thumping Paul Otuoma leading ODM, the party lost a lot of influential and long term serving leaders like Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and Florence Mutua-Waingah. Just like jumping from a frying pan to the real fire, the picking of Arthur Odera as Paul Otuoma's running mate has made it worse for ODM to win Busia Governor's seat as it contributed to the exit of more members especially drawn from Teso North. Arthur Odera, who also prides in arrogance, deceit and double speak has made it hard for Otuoma to become Busia Governor. This is a tale that every voter shall live to witness.

ABABU NAMWAMBA SUCCESSFULLY DELIVERS RAILA'S BEDROOM TO WILLIAM RUTO!

Immediate Foreign Affairs CAS Hon Abubu Namwamba is leading an eminent team of persons in campaigning for the Deputy President His Excellency William Ruto in Western Kenya and in his home, Busia County. Ababu, whom the DP named alongside Senate speaker Ken Lusaka to lead his campaigns in Western Kenya has been criscrossing Western Counties with most of his activities in Busia County, having conversations with voters while selling the Bottom Up Econonic model championed by William Ruto.

The recent activities by Ababu Namwamba has seen the ODM Party leader Raila Amolo lose his voter monopoly in Busia County and other Western Counties. Being at the core team of William Ruto, Ababu is doing what he does best as it has been in the past years. Just the same way the Budalangi General managed to bring ODM in Busia, UDA has spread so fast and is enjoying a lot of support across the county courtesy of Ababu. In 2017, Budalangi Constituency where Ababu comes from recorded the highest number of votes from Western that were cast in favour of UhuRuto's Jubilee Party.

For the August elections, UDA led by William Ruto will have nearly half of the Western votes, ending Raila Odinga's "Bedroom" monopoly. The Busia County that was once an ODM stronghold is no longer a stronghold of anybody. But as campaigns intensify, UDA will overtake and carry the monopoly, giving an upper hand win for William Ruto.

PANIC ROCKS PAUL OTUOMA'S CAMP IN BUSIA!

Frustrated supporters of Paul Nyongesa Otuoma in Busia County have appealed to Raila Odinga to allow zoning in the county in favour of their candidate

Led by Busia county boda boda riders chairman Erick Makokha, Otuoma's supporters expressed their misgivings concerning the fielding of Moses Mulomi as Busia gubernatorial aspirant on DAP-K ticket, an affiliate party of Azimio coalition.

“We demand that the Mulomi ticket be withdrawn owing to his poor track record as outgoing deputy governor,” Makokha said. He said that Mulomi had not done any tangible project to improve lives of Busia residents, and therefore does not merit the governor position.“Our county referral hospital is underfunded. There is water shortage and constant electricity outage. Admitted patients are forced to buy food and medication outside the facility,” said Makokha.

He narrated how Raila had supported DAP-K gubernatorial candidates in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties against ODM candidates. He cited that Busia County is an ODM zone and therefore should be allowed to vote in Otuoma.

“We have done thorough research and settled on Otuoma as the most popular candidate, Mulomi is not our favorable choice. He is a project meant to deny our candidate sufficient votes to win elections,” added Makokha.

Together with his running mate, Hon. Francis Thoya, ODM Nyali aspirant Said Abdalla, nominated MCA and Kadzandani Ward ODM asiprant Fatma Kushe they toured Kadzandani Ward in Nyali constituency as they engaged local residents on various issues.

Land issues are very emotive especially in Mombasa because of the high value of land. Many families have been dispossessed of their inheritance due to lack of title deeds leaving them in poverty. During his tenure as MP, Hon Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir was at the forefront of agitating for the common mwananchi and their right to own the land on which they have lived. He prevented the eviction of residents from Kaa Chonjo in Mvita and from Cambodia & Bangladesh in Jomvu. He equally prevented residents of Shimanzi in Mvita Constituency from being evicted. All through his representations in the National Assembly.

During his tenure as Mvita Member of Parliament he ensured the National Land Commission gave a fair valuation on land in Mvita to allow willing buyer and willing seller module of resolving land dispute.

When he takes office as the Governor, he will ensure that the question of land ownership in Kadzandani is resolved in consultation with the National Land Commission to allow those who have occupied the land for several years to receive allotment letters based on fair valuation. "We will not stand by as unscrupulous individuals seek to enrich themselves unfairly by manipulating the system in their favor to lock out genuine occupants with inflated valuations that regular wananchi cannot afford" he said

The rally that was attended by the Azimio La Umoja Presidential flag bearer The Right Honorable Raila Odinga came to a stand still when the incoming Governor Shariff Nassir rose to speak to his people.

That came moments after the impeached Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko tried to bring some show in the rally.
