എന്റെ വായനയുടെ ആദ്യ കാലം തൊട്ടേ സാവിത്രി രാജീവന്റെ രചനകളുണ്ട്, കവിതകളും കഥകളുമായി. ചിലപ്പോൾ ചിത്രങ്ങളും. ഇപ്പോൾ സാവിത്രിയുടെ കഥകളുടെ മുഴുവൻ ഒരു സമാഹാരം വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. മുമ്പ് വായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് ആ കഥകൾ, ഇപ്പോൾ മറ്റൊരു സമയത്ത് അവ വായിക്കുന്നു.

മാധവിക്കുട്ടിയ്‌ക്കും സാറാ ജോസഫിനും തുടർച്ച എന്ന രീതിയിൽ നമ്മുടെ പെൺപക്ഷ രചനകളെ കളം തിരിച്ചത് മലയാളത്തിലെ "മാർക്സിസ്റ്റ് നിരൂപണ"ത്തിന്റെ വായനയുടെ രാഷ്ട്രീയമായിരുന്നു. തങ്ങളുടെ ആശയ സമാഹാരണങ്ങളിലേക്ക് കഥയെയും കഥാകൃത്തിനെയും ക്ഷണിച്ചിരുത്തുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു അതിന്റെ പൊതു രീതി. ആ രീതിയാകട്ടെ, സർഗ്ഗാത്മകതയെ വളരെ വേഗത്തിൽ standardize ചെയ്തു. അതിനാൽ, മാനസി, ഗ്രേസി, സാവിത്രി രാജീവൻ, ഗീതാ ഹിരണ്യൻ, തുടങ്ങിയവർക്കൊക്കെ ഈ നിരൂപണം രണ്ട് കളത്തിലെ ഓരോന്ന് എന്ന് വീതം വെച്ചു.

(കഥ, അവസാനമായി, കഥ മാത്രമാവുന്ന അനുഭവം ഇപ്പോഴും നമ്മുടെ സിദ്ധാന്ത പ്രണയത്തിന് അജ്ഞാതമാണ്. സിദ്ധാന്തങ്ങൾ പലപ്പോഴും കാരണവരുടെ ഗൃഹസ്ഥാശ്രമം പോലെയുമാണ് : ഞാനിവിടെത്തന്നെ കിടന്നു മരിക്കും എന്ന് അത് ശ്വാസം വലിച്ചുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്നു.)

അതുകൊണ്ടാണ്, സാവിത്രിയടക്കമുള്ള കഥാകൃത്തുക്കളുടെ individual art നമ്മൾ വേണ്ടതുപോലെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെയും പോയത്.
