Dreams are doorways into possibility. They can reflect our deepest fears and hidden desires – they can also be ridiculous, magical, or fun!
Take inspiration from your unconscious mind by deconstructing your dream into story beats. Note down everything you can remember, then complete a writing exercise where your dream happens in real life.
✍️ Who is your protagonist? What is happening to them? How does your protagonist react to this situation? What is your protagonist feeling – and why? ✍️

Introducing our leading ladies...
Granny ‘Joy’ Jinks is fun and lives a life filled with colour. She was a stage manager at a theatre in her youth – where she met Grandpa Jinks’s and helped with his famous magic act. She’d planned to join him on stage but his death cruelly cut this short and she put her dreams on hold… until now.
Although she strongly disagrees with any suggestion that she should be slowing down or acting her age – Granny is sometimes at risk of letting doubts about her age and ability get to her. It will take extra determination to fulfil her dream at this point in her life – but with Jada alongside her, she can do it.
Granny Jinks loves to wear colour - a pink cardigan over a green-and-white striped cotton dress. She calls Jada ‘my gem’ or ‘Jada Gem’. She’s especially good at card tricks and has especially slippery cards. Her wink is called the ‘Jinks wink’.
**Jada**
Jada is our heroine. She’s a little shy and sensitive – her mother is not really in her life and that has shaped her somewhat. But she is not defined by this. In fact, Granny says diamonds are formed under pressure. Jada sometimes finds speaking out loud to groups – like in maths class – intimidating.
Jada can find her overprotective dad rather frustrating at times and she wants more independence. Granny’s playfulness and warmth allows Jada to let her creative side come out and have some fun.
Jada has great courage underneath her shy exterior and is a loyal and supportive friend and magician’s assistant.
**Tilda**
Tilda has recently joined Jada’s school. It was Tilda who encouraged Jada to join with Granny Jinks in book 1. Tilda has the same red pack of slippery cards as Granny Jinks for her magic, and to keep her fidgety hands busy. She has a spray of freckles across her cheeks and green eyes. Her stage name is Tilda the Terrific.
