Holocaust Memorial Day 2022

Earlier this week we were in London, providing cameras and support for a hybrid event commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day 2022.

The audience was a mix of both ‘live’ and ‘virtual’, with contributions being made from around the world, via Zoom.

The evening commenced with two survivors of genocide recounting their experiences and expressing their hopes and wishes for the future: Janine Webber BEM is a survivor of the Holocaust in Poland; and Sokphal Din BEM is a survivor of the Khmer Rouge’s ‘Killing Fields’ in Cambodia.

A short service of commemoration featuring a candle lighting ceremony was then followed by a ‘Question Time’ session featuring a multi-faith panel of six, tackling the ever-present issue of anti-semitic conspiracy theories and how to unpick them.

This past 12 months has seen the brakes put on most, if not all, surgical filming. Thankfully, as there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel - organisations are keen to hit the ground running and are already getting in touch to discuss their projects.
I was just looking back and realised that it is 7 years since we completed work on this project and with 37 videos delivered, it was quite a big one!!

Once again, we've had the pleasure of working alongside Nottingham based Consultant ENT Surgeon, Professor Nick Jones, this time during the completion of a project for the award winning international medical and science publishing company, Thieme. The project required the production of 37 videos covering a range of sinus and skull base surgical procedures as well as interviews with patients. The films form part of an online teaching resource that accompanies the newly released 'Manual of Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery' (ISBN (UK): 9783131309723). The publication, now in its 2nd edition, provides a step-by-step guide to this type of surgery and is aimed at all specialists who need to stay current in the field. The life expectancy of videotape is 25-30 years, but picture quality begins to deteriorate long before then.

If memories held on your tapes are to be kept for the future, they should be transferred to one of the more durable digital formats.

The life expectancy of videotape was initially considered to be around 25 years or so, with the original image quality beginning do deteriorate by the 10-year point. While the 25-year forecast has proven to be slightly pessimistic, deterioration has undoubtedly begun and older tapes are fast approaching the point where they will be no longer playable and, if their contents are to be saved for the future, they need to be transferred to one of the more durable digital formats.

One solution is to do-it-yourself, the other is to hand your tapes to a company like Jual Media where your tapes will be professionally processed and cared for. Currently, we’re offering at least 10% discount on all transfers from videotape to DVD or MP4.
