Blue Whale Tale Fluke 🐋 I was lucky enough to see some epic displays from feeding blue whales off the California coast. They’re the largest animal ever to exist on planet earth that we know of. The blues we saw mainly took a few breaths then disappeared for 7-12 mins to dive for krill. This one put on more of a display, raising its tail out the water to dive. The current global population of whales is estimated around 15,000. Prior to the whaling industry, it was estimated there were over 250,000.

Looking forward to getting back out into wild places this week. I’ll be California LA around California this week, and spending some time on the water searching for big marine mammals & predators. 🐋 🦈
📷 .eu have lent me the A1 again, an absolute beast of a camera, so looking forward to seeing what I can capture. Bring on the sharks & whales!!!
WORLD EXTINCTION DAY 🦈
These are some of the rarest creatures on planet earth…. Mediterranean GREAT WHITE SHARKS. I found these two juveniles (175cm long, male / female, probably brother and sister) in a freezer in a North African port. They were killed deliberately by fisherman and sold at a market. I’ve personally seen 8 Great Whites from the Med sold for food, whilst their fins get shipped to China. I’ve been investigating their decline for over 3 years now alongside a team of international scientists. The findings are terrifying. Every Great White seen by fisherman off North Africa is targeted and killed, then sold for their meat. All other shark species are killed, regardless of age.
Great Whites in the Mediterranean are Critically Endangered, believed to be only a couple of hundred left, yet they’ve lived there for over 2 millions years. Human activity (fishing), mainly from the last 50 years, is pushing them to the brink of extinction.
Some of you may think - good…why would I want Great Whites in the Med when I’m trying to swim off a hangover after a massive tear up ibiza. The reality is the Mediterranean is the most overfished sea in the world. It was once a haven of Maine biodiversity, like the Sea of Cortez. Now it’s been emptied by industrial fishing fleets of all the 22 nations that border the Mediterranean. The GW and other shark species such as the Mako, are apex keystone predators, their existence is crucial for the marine ecosystem and they are irreplaceable.
Fortunately these two sharks will contribute towards science, their DNA is being used to help us better understand the genetics of these amazing predators.
We live in a world full of many animals, insects, plants, and creatures that are approaching risk of extinction. When a species is defined as endangered, its numbers are unusually low - in the last few thousands, hundreds, or tens. When the last of the species is gone, they are gone for ever.

Did anyone else miss the Northern Lights in London at the weekend? I slept straight through the whole bloody thing 😫Gutted! Then went on on Saturday, yomped up a massive hill and sat there alongside a load of drunk people and saw nothing!
Anyway, I did get to see them in Finland 🇫🇮 this in January and they were epic. 2024 is predicted to be the peak year in an 11 year cycle of magnetic storms, so if you haven’t seen them yet, try and get to the Arctic or Antarctic (obviously not in the summer…).
The colours that appear depend on the mixture of gases in the atmosphere. Green aurorae result from interactions of solar particles with oxygen; however, at higher altitudes oxygen produces red aurorae. Blue and purple shades are caused by nitrogen. These shots were taken at -30° which killed my camera batteries.

My first Golden Eagle. Spotted at 3,500m in the Himalayas. This is young Eagle, which had been attracted to by a group of cultures devouring a carcass from a snow leopard kill. An Epic Predator and very hard to track and film.

1st Spring track training.. .Not great but a good marker. 5km 20:35 nowhere near my more recent cross-country PB of 18:05 in 2018, which is way slower than my twenties running pace. Day 12 of no booze is helping. Managed 10 /12 training sessions;l of 🥊 🏋️♂️ 🏃 🚲 If I stay injury free I might crack a triathlon this summer. Running aim is sub 19min 5km. We’ll see!
Sickening. Some humans attitude towards wildlife is psychopathic. This man belongs in prison. Wolves need protection not persecution.

Cody Roberts, 42, was cited and fined for being in possession of the live wolf in Daniel, Wyoming, on February 29, but it was not illegal to kill it, as he did after the bizarre scene at Green River Bar,
In the armoury for Round 3 of the - with the ‘s version of Joe Rogan! Literally no idea how long we talked for, but we gave it both barrels. There aren’t many podcasts that start with being handed a pump action shot gun & and M4! Brilliant studio for it - I might need to borrow some kit for my next film …. 🎧 Episode out soon.
Ocean hanging 🦈 It’s nice to hang out with healthy populations of sharks. A lot of what we have been doing over the last 3 years has involved investigating the illegal wildlife trade in the Med & Atlantic & following conflicts across the globe, witnessing a lot destruction of the natural world. Good news stories can be hard to come, but important to show and tell… 🌍
The Jellyfish Zone. Ongeim’l Tketau the ‘fifth lake’ in Palau’s southern lagoon. Millions of golden jellyfish migrate horizontally across the lake daily. In this stunning clear lake, lives a subspecies of moon jellyfish that don’t sting, enabling you to free dive amongst them. A mesmerising experience! Palau has some of the best diving in the world and created the world’s first shark sanctuary. & I are the first ever people to skydive into it, but the that’s another story.. 🦈
Amazing!!! 🦈 GREAT WHITE SHARKS 🦈

Photobombed by Rudolph! 🦌 Sunset in Lapland is at 12:45pm and it’s stunning in the frozen Boreal forests! The strangest thing has been the daytime weather range. From below -31 to +3 and raining. The Fins say it’s unusual to be so warm or rain in January. The climate is warming up and has become unpredictable. The arctic has warmed up four times faster than the rest of the world in the last 45 years. 🇫🇮
I am buzzing! Ridiculously fun snowmobile ride in Lapland through snow covered boreal forests in search of the Northern Lights. No luck for a few hours, then they emerged, green streaks dancing in the freezing night. So good! Loving the Arctic circle! I’ve been waiting to see the Northern Lights and then listen to my mate’s epic tune - ‘Northern Lights’ by Hemstock & Jennings.
2024 Ready! Looking forward to the Northern Lights & deep snow in Finland, some 🦈 🎥 - obviously. Lots of physical training planned, a business venture, conservation projects & some conflict zone productions. Nothing comes easy, just got to keep grafting!
2023. Lots happened. Ready for a big 2024. Happy New Year! 🥂

Thank you to everyone that came and supported our London Premiere of AFGHANIsTAN 📽️at the Curzon. With over 300 people there, it was an incredible night, with some people even flying in from Canada to see it. It was great to have so many of our Afghan friends & veterans from the Royal Marines, Household Div, Paras, Navy & Airforce. The feedback has been overwhelming, and we have full inboxes to respond to. I look forward to its release next year. Big thanks from the team; Marty Stalker 🇦🇫
‘I ask, was it worth it?’: the Royal Marine who fought the Taliban
Former Marine officer James Glancy won a medal for bravery in Afghanistan. But filming a documentary about the country makes him ask whether the campaign really achieved anything
Sony professional ambassador James Glancy, filming a snow leopard conservation project in Annapurna National Park, Nepal. He has been filming with the Sony A1, A7siii & using the 27-70mm GMII, 70-200mm GMII and 200-600mm.🐆📽
Long range shoot! 📷
It’s been an amazing & exhausting m time in the mountains of Annapurna National Park (Annapurna III in the background). Conservation filmmaking in remote places has become a calling to me, so the chance to Direct a film about co-existence between snow leopards and rural mountain farmers has been a real privilege. Working at altitude with heavy camera kit is hard work, but absolutely worth it when you see Golden Eagles soar past, and track a snow leopard mother with her cub. Ive learnt so much from talking to local cattle hearders, and wildlife and conservation guides. Nepal is probably one of the best wild places I’ve ever been - I’ll be back soon! 🏔️ Great to be supported by and on this trip.

NEPAL. The most of stunning places. I’m feel so lucky to be out in the mountain wilderness, led by learning about Snow Leopards & filming a wildlife. After two flights and 15 hours off road driving, we got to Manang. At 0630 we trekked up from 3,500m to 3,900 on a 20km circuit (with kit), and within an hour we were watching a golden eagle. From here we can see Annapurna II, Annapurna III & some other massive mountain. Annapurna I is the most dangerous mountain in the world, killing the more mountaineers than any other. I am exhausted. Back at it tomorrow.

I spent some time in Britain’s Atlantic temperate rainforest this week around Loch Lomond, getting some miles back in the legs on the hills.⛰️ 🐑 It’s a stunning location, albeit the landscape has been massively degraded by overgrazing from Scotland’s 6.8 million sheep, and huge numbers of deer, leaving the land barren & pretty lifeless. 🦌 Predators are desperately needed…🐺 🌳The Atlantic temperate rainforests are one of the most biologically diverse and important habitats across Europe. Ranging from the north western tip of Scotland to the south of Galicia, these forests once stretched along our Atlantic seaboard and inspired centuries of folklore, fairy tales and romance. Once covering 20% of the UK, less than 1% of this precious habitat now survives. The other wood blocks are non native sika spruce plantations, with little life in them.🌲 . Hopefully the UK can recover some of these rainforests, get rid of some sheep & re-introduce a few lost predators to improve biodiversity, but I won’t hold my breath given the mindset of the farming lobbies…
🎥 We’ve had a huge response to London Premiere. AFGHANISTAN is the last film to capture life in the country under the old government before the return of the Taliban ended freedom for women and ethnic minorities. It’s a country of rich culture, history, sport and music. Things the Taliban have now banned. We commissioned this song ‘Sarzamin’ by Dawood Sarkhosh to be sung in Dari by Elaha Soroor. 🇦🇫 last tickets available on Eventbrite.
Behind the Scenes 🎥 We operate with small agile teams & local partners with extensive experience in working in hostile environments, yet capable of exceptional cinematography & storytelling, with the best kit - by sea, by land. These are concepts I learned from a previous career, working alongside elite operators who work with a strength and guile unmatched anywhere else in the world. Come and see AFGHANISTAN 🇦🇫 on 11 December. London. A few tickets left. Link in my bio.

It’s sad to see another adult Great White Shark (Carcharadon carcharias) killed in the Mediterranean. This 5m male was landed in Tunisia & caught somewhere between Lampadeusia and the Tunisian coast. I‘ve been investigating the catches of GW’s in the Med, and this year has been very bad. 7 juveniles & 2 adults have been killed in Tunisia alone. I think the number is likely to be higher. Extinction is a certainty at this rate. 🦈 Blue Planet Society Oceana The Shark Trust Blue Marine Foundation WWF
