When the actor walked into the studio for a shoot in our Spring/Summer 2003 issue, he turned the tables on the idea of a photo shoot. He put on the clothes and assumed the characters of the photographer, stylist, publicist, groomer, and only then the model, to create a performance.
Now, on his 69th birthday, we revisit that same story. “I approach acting physically, like a dancer, which probably sounds a little pat. But for me, the best performance is where you are absolutely insignificant but at the same time, the centre of everything,” Dafoe said.
