We’re thrilled to announce that Kira Richards has joined our team as part of the Travel Media Awards Step Up scheme! This fantastic initiative promotes diversity and inclusion in travel media. During her month-long internship, Kira will gain invaluable experience in research, writing, editing, and digital media with National Geographic Traveller (UK) and other teams. Her journey will include:

- Researching and writing stories for National Geographic Traveller (UK)
- Learning about commissioning and editing processes -
- Assisting the digital and Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK) teams
- Gaining insights into paid content
- Supporting the events team and participating in our annual Food Festival

Kira has already shared her enthusiasm: "I've had an amazing first week at APL so far! It's been great to work with the print and digital teams on National Geographic Traveller (UK) to learn how they produce content for the magazine and website, as well as write a short news piece independently. APL Media proudly announces that Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK) has won the Food Magazine or Section Award in the Guild of Food Writers Awards 2024. This is the second time the title has triumphed in this category, having also done so in 2021.

The magazine is celebrating an exceptional year of accolades, with editor Nicola Trup winning Best Deputy Editor in the BSME Talent Awards; former editor Glen Mutel being named BSME’s Editor of the Year – Food & Drink; and Farida Zeynalova and Sarah Barrell winning accolades in the 2024 TravMedia Awards. Calling aspiring journalists! APL Media's Youth Internship initiative is now up and running, and has successfully welcomed its first intern on the four-week programme. The initiative has been set up to empower young people (aged 16 and over) from underrepresented backgrounds who have a passion for writing and want to break into the world of journalism and publishing.

“We're committed to fostering a more inclusive industry," says APL's editorial director Maria Pieri. "Our aim is to provide an invaluable stepping stone for talented individuals from diverse backgrounds.”

Interns will work alongside experienced professionals and gain hands-on experience in different departments. Opportunities for mentoring sessions with the team will be available after the internships, too.
