More on-set chat as we discuss what we watched in lockdown. Whether its Netflix, Prime, Mubi, Britbox – you name it, we've devoured it... Just Runner's Audrey takes you back to 2015, to Marvel's not-for-kids, reluctant superhero series Jessica Jones.
"I will always miss Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix. Thinking about character relatability in a Marvel or other franchises of the same caliber is not evident. Audiences watch these mainly for the action, the empowerment and the heroes fighting their foes. In the case of Jessica Jones, however, I found myself relating to the main character a great deal. Don't worry, not the alcoholism part!
But her view of the world, her demeanour, I felt like it was a little bit me a few years ago. I found myself saying "Yes, exactly!" several times to the TV when Krysten Ritter was delivering one of her signature funny, acerbic lines. I did not live the same experiences as the hero. I do not, unfortunately, possess her powers, for instance. Still, falling for a misanthropic lifestyle like Jessica certainly has a pull in me when I see the state of human beings in the world. Watching her character develop across the seasons was addictive, as well as having a reluctant female hero, different from the other female heroes I had seen. Most importantly, the themes of her story were addressed in an impactful and lasting way."
