For many of today’s world-famous artists, an award from the Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD represented a springboard to their major careers: Jessye Norman, Francisco Araiza, Christoph Eschenbach, Mitsuko Uchida, Thomas Quasthoff, Yuri Bashmet, Christian Tetzlaff, Sharon Kam, Heinz Holliger, Maurice André, Trio Wanderer, Antoine Tamestit and the Quatuor Ebène to name but a few.

Over the years, the ARD International Music Competition with its annually changing line-up of musicians, has developed into an internationally singular and highly regarded institution, and as always we are very excited to see what's in store for the 2024 edition. 👇

Renowned Flautist, Elisabeth Möst spoke to us a couple of years ago after a remarkable health recovery, which saw her return to music with full success and a range of exciting projects on the horizon. One of those projects was ‘The Glass Window’, a visual art project.

"The Premiere took place in June 2022 in Salzburg and was a big success! I think mixing music with other arts makes my performances richer,” Möst told us. It is clear that this ethos has continued to fuel her work, as literature and spoken words are the latest art-form to weave into her creative process.

"Spoken words can be a connecting link that force the music or explain the music. The choice of spoken words has to be done very sensitively. Preparing a sensible, reasonable concept takes lot of time and reading.”

You can call it research, but it is evident that Möst’s connection with the arts, whether it is visual art, literature or performance, moves deeper than mere research, and feeds into a subconscious of creative wealth.

"The two biggest hurdles I come up against [in touring dance productions] are financial limitations and presenting opportunities. Navigating the balance between these two issues often feels like a catch-22 situation: what should be secured first, the money or the presenting opportunities? On the one hand, for funders, you need to demonstrate some level of demand for the work, so you need presenters on board. On the other, presenters often want to see the work before they commit to programming it."

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Drum Festival, which was launched by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Chinachem Group presents the concert “One Beat, One World: Connecting Through the Drum”. Spreading the Positivity through the Power of Drumming, Artistic Director Yan Huichang led the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in collaboration with renowned virtousi from all over the world, including Dori from Korea, Yosuke Oda from Japan, Azaguno from Africa, Abbos Group from Uzbekistan, Anthony Fernandes from the United States, Shanxi Jiangzhou Drum Troupe from Mainland China and Gekko from Hong Kong. Last week violinist Stefan Jackiw’s bow unexpectedly broke mid-performance at the UK premiere of Reinhold Glière’s Violin Concerto with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Jackiw plays a 19th-century Parisian bow, made by François Nicolas Voirin, worth $30,000. "I’ve had a string break, but never had a bow break", Jackiw said. Thomas Bangalter, co-founder of Daft Punk, has signed a new agreement with Boosey & Hawkes covering the publishing of his ballet score Mythologies.
