The Head of Sound is the sole member of the sound department for the tour. As well as running the sound get in and get out at each venue (supported by in-house crew as required), the Head of Sound will operate the sound for every performance.
There are four artistes double packed so eight radio mics, plus tracks on QLab, but no live music.
ROLE DETAILS

Creating a sound ‘book’ in rehearsals, as well as pre-programming the mic cues into the sound desk and working with the Musical Director to ensure that the QLab is set up and working as required.
Along with the Production Manager and TSM, liaising with venue Technical Managers as required to ensure the Technical Rider can be satisfied, and working to resolve any instances where it can’t.
Working with the Director, Company Stage Manager, and TSM, to ensure that all sound cues are in the correct place in every cue script. There is no DSM, so the Head of Sound will be self-cued on Sound.

Maintaining radio mics, and ensuring that any breaks or repairs are reported and resolved in good time.
Mixing every show in line with the director and producer’s requirements for the production.
Working with the Company Stage Manager to ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with the Company Policy on Health and Safety.
Keeping track of all expenditure on the show. (All receipts, along with the relevant paperwork, must be submitted weekly)
PERSON SPECIFICATION

- Extensive sound mixing experience
- Good knowledge of QLab, and of installing temporary sound systems
- Good knowledge of programming sound desks
- Good knowledge of radio mic maintenance and repairs
- Good knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation
- Good understanding of all technical departments
- A strong team player.
GEAR SPECIFICATION
Knowledge of Digico console, setup and operation of line-array systems. In suitable rooms use house systems or a hybrid of our gear and theirs and know enough to just use ours if theirs is crap.
SALARY AND ACCOMMODATION
Rehearsals are paid at current Equity rate, plus holiday pay
Tour weeks are paid at £1000 (£923 plus holiday pay), plus travel in crew luxury splitter bus, plus single room accommodation plus breakfast in Premier Inn.
No further subs are provided on tour.
Travel is provided in a splitter bus with a dedicated driver. The Head of Sound will not ordinarily have driving duties, but may be required to do so in case of emergency (but only if they hold a licence…).
