A Paisley teacher has earned a place in the top 50 shortlist for a prestigious global award.

John McGoldrick, who teaches at St Charles’ Primary School in Paisley, has been named in the running for the 2026 GEMS Education Global Teacher Prize.

The award, organised by the Varkey Foundation in partnership with UNESCO, celebrates outstanding contributions to the teaching profession.

Fast food giant Wendy's has opened its first Scottish restaurant in Linwood, and it is already proving popular.

A large crowd gathered outside the site on Friday morning near Phoenix Retail Park as punters waited with anticipation for the American Burger giant to begin trading.

A piper played as the ribbon was cut to open the site, with staff cheering.
