📢 The Astera AX9 is now available to hire from Limelite Lighting.

The AX9 uses the same 3-in-1 concept as its AX5 little brother, which means it can be used as a wireless light, an elegant uplight or as a wired PAR light. With 20 hours of battery life, it’s ideal for long operation and for larger installations.

When it comes to design, the AX9 won’t disappoint. Featuring 5 coloured LED chips, coupled with Astera’s Titan LED Engine, the AX9 can deliver an RGB, Mint & Amber colour spectrum and exceptional colour rendering of 96-98 Ra from 3200K to 6500K.

New to our screens this evening at 8pm is Dress the Nation on ITV and ITVX. Presented by AJ Odudu and Vernon Kay, the new reality TV show sees 10 candidates compete over six episodes to land the job of their dreams as in-house junior designer for M&S.

Having previously worked with the show’s production company, South Shore for the production of Don’t Look Down in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer, we were delighted to be selected as their preferred lighting design and kit supplier.

The show was filmed on the top floor of JJ Studios in Shoreditch, which upon initial inspection, did not have sufficient load weights for a lighting rig typical of a show like this.

The venue had already been confirmed with production, so we decided to commission a structural engineer to ensure any equipment installed was safe and would not cause permanent damage to the building.

Once the structural engineer signed off on a minimal weight loading, we worked with the show’s DOP, Vinnie Doyle to devise a lighting scheme that did not require heavy rigging equipment yet would still provide impactful visual effects and essential lighting for filming.

Working closely with Vinnie, we settled on a lighting specification that comprised 140 Astera Titan Tubes and 60 Hyperion Tubes. To provide both key lights and back lights, as well as visual effects, the tubes were rigged to the building’s rafters and at angles. The entire rig was controlled by a GrandMA3 lighting desk.

The results speak for themselves, and we are delighted to have successfully overcome the complexity of the venue using creative lighting solutions.

Thank you to all our incredible crew, who supported the production:
Project Management and Lighting Design - Ed Railton
Gaffer - Phil Parsons
Sparks - Drew Bristow, Dave Genge, Kieran O’Brien, and Ryan Norcott

At Limelite Lighting we’ve had the privilege of lighting some incredible events for live broadcast, and now we can add to our portfolio the Paris Olympics 2024.

Over a five-week period, we were the exclusive studio lighting supplier for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), who own the international rights and distribution of the Games. They required multiple studio space for their live coverage across Eurosports, TNT Sports, Max, CNN and Discovery+.

We delivered a complex lighting, rigging and controls package for WBD’s six studios where they would broadcast live throughout the UK, US, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Poland, France, Spain, Germany, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands. Working in shift patterns our crew in the UK and Paris worked supported 18-hours of records each day.

The venue for the studios was the open roof top of the Hotel Raphaël in central Paris. The logistics of building an intricate lighting rig on a roof top in Paris, posed a significant challenge. Working with White Productions we built the lighting rig upon the streets below, then crane-lifted it seven stories onto the hotel’s rooftop.

Once in situ the Limelite crew rigged the power and remaining lighting equipment according to the creative vision of Lighting Directors, Chris Hollier and Andy Cottey, who worked with Limelite’s Gaffer, Matthew Mountier. The lighting specification included: 140 x Martin Mac XIP, 12 x Cream Vortex, 7 x Aperture LS 1200d, 140 x Showtec Cameleon Spot Q, 80 x Prolights LumiPix 15IP, 60 x Astera 8way AX5 TriplePAR, plus large volumes of set LED.

Kudos to our Network Technician, Joe Peal, who was instrumental in developing a reliable and complex network from Paris to the WBD’s live vision gallery in the UK – a mere 250 miles away!

Despite its challenges, the project was a huge success and the crew behind the scenes deserve a medal for their commitment. Thank you to Limelite’s crew: Gaffer, Matthew Mountier; Paris Operators, Ed Railton and Frankie Francis; Gaffer, Phil Parsons; Sparks, Chris Earle, Alan Read, Rebecca Maskell and Dave Harris; Network, Joe Peal; London Operators, Dan Street, Shaun Burnet, Andrew Law, Louise Lesley, Seb Williams, Drew Bristow and Tom Dyson.
