Our newest work to be released is a project we’ve been filming for , an incredible non-profit who use the law to protect our UK waterways. No one else in the country has the leverage or bravery to take legal action against polluters and regulators. Our new film documents their work and traces their history way back to 1948.

Sometimes when the edit is finished and the film is all cut and done with, we’re left with visuals that look great, but just didn’t work to tell the story we needed at the time. This little sequence of one of our favourite humans tearing his way up the side of a Black Mountain came out so visually pleasing we had to post it anyway. Full film for .run and out soon.

Kickstarter is a wonderful place for businesses to grow incredible ideas really quickly, unfortunately over the years it's also grown to be a place where video goes to die. The quality of content used to sell ideas and products there has certainly improved over the years, but the thought, story and conception tend to go into the products or services, rather than into the marketing material itself.
At Friction, we worked really closely with Windeler to switch that on its head, to take the concept of an incredible product and do it proud with a host of creative, individual and brave visuals set to attract the eyes and hearts of investors.

Traveling through the city, especially Bristol, can often conjure some incredible parallaxing perspectives. A while back, we needed to shoot some city scene cutaways and this seemed like the perfect excuse to finally realise a host of shots has been dreaming of for around 5-6 years of cycling through the city. To properly capture the beauty of when foreground travels at different pace to background, we needed a long lens, our 110mm Mamiya 645, a camera with high frame rate, Sony FX6 and a gimbal, the ronin RS2. These shots all hit the cutting room floor, but still deserved to see the light of day, so in our spare time we’ve thrown together this short selection of metropolitan, grimy yet starkly beautiful shots.

After a postponed 2020 event, over 70 riders showed up for this year's Pan Celtic Race grand depart, following a 1,240-mile route through Cornwall, South West England, and Wales. The official event video just went live and you can watch it here...

We were asked to produce some high-end imagery to support the campaign and promote Laura's exceptional work tracking micro-plastics in our waters. This was an incredible project and we loved every second of it!

A big highlight of the year so far was getting down onto a remote Anglesey beach at 5am to catch the sunrise and watch the sea mist float away on a roasting hot August morning. After a fairly large amount of research, hours spent building and testing, we’re pretty ruddy pleased with this little rig. Over the next few weeks we’re going to be operating on this nye on 24hours a day. So it needs be lightweight, cinematic and adaptable. The Sony FX6, Sigma 35mm T1.5 Cine lens and Tilta Advanced Ring with the Nucleus Follow Focus.
As you’ve probably gathered by now our creative director is quite a big fan of mucking about on bikes and bringing a camera along to document the inevitable stories. Well, next week Jack’s off to shoot the 1200mile which will take place across Cornwall and Wales. The cyclists rarely pause for sleep, spending a massive portion of the 10 days in the saddle, with some doing 250-300mile stints without stopping. There will be daily films going online during the race as well as one main film releasing once all is said and done. In a world of large scale commercial food production, over-fishing, supermarket trips and deliveries, it's very easy to forget the beauty and simplicity in taking to the water under your own steam and finding head space and mindfulness in carefully catching your own food to put on the table.
Ed Knight spends as much time as he can in the ocean, whether it's surfing or fishing from his stand up paddle board. We travel along with him and get to understand just what it means to put food on your table and put back what you don't need. We’ve been shooting on the new FX6 for the past few weeks in the studio and on location and it’s safe to say... we’ve bought one. The ultimate little cinema package, more affordable and far more powerful than the FS7 ever was and more practical for big days than the FX9. What a little beauty! Now we just have to wait patiently in the queue whilst the world restocks and they become available again 😴 We’ve been shooting on ’s cine glass for years now and love the imagery too. A spot-on combo!

A few months back we were contacted by Hydro Flask to make a film with our favourite wild-swimmer, Laura Sanderson. Their #refillforgood campaign is all part of their push to minimise single-use plastics and get us using products we can refill time and time again. We were asked to produce a roster of high-end imagery to support the campaign and promote Laura’s brilliant work tracking micro plastics in our waterways. It was a real dream project for us and we loved every second of it (even the part where we had to get in water that was hovering just above freezing). It was a skeleton crew thanks to the C-word. A few weeks back now we released our latest film ‘Mabon’. The story of an incredibly inspiring young eco-warrior who spends his days at the beaches cleaning up the endless ocean plastic. Well, whilst we made that film, our resident trainee camera operator @bushy_art put together a wicked little behind the scenes film, documenting the journey we go on to create such a film and a few of the laughs and @jwcfilm’s awful jokes. Today this amazing lady is riding 240 miles, yes, you read that right, 240 miles on her hand bike from her home. Using a turbo, her and 79 other others are joining @mrmarkbeaumont to replicate his ‘around the world in 80 days’ challenge, by each cycling 240miles at home. NEW WORK ALERT! This beautiful English paradise nestled between the rolling Exmoor hills is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. We had the pleasure of being asked to create a promotional film, the photography and some small online cuts for Exe Valley Glamping over an amazingly barmy September day. It was so good to finally get some climbing on film the other day. It’s been a big bucket list film expedition idea for a long time for us. What with films like The Dawn Wall and Free Solo getting huge recently too, it’s awesome to see this incredible sport grow bigger and bigger.
