Google’s “helpful content” update has rolled out.
What does that means for your website?
• Content lacking a “human touch” will be devalued - This means creating trite content stuffed with trends and keywords for bots to find instead of providing a positive user experience, aren’t going to rank as well anymore.
• This is good news for everyone creating quality, useful content though. It doesn’t negate SEO best practices if you write for people and not for search engines.
• One bad apple can spoil the barrel – If you are inclined to ignore Google’s new rules it can affect your entire website. Including pages containing good content. Toe the line, or else.
• Be a specialist, not a generalist – It’s always a good idea to go ham on a given topic or niche to demonstrate your knowledge and usefulness to Google.
It’s early days, this update to the algorithm is still pretty new, so it’s too soon to measure the impact fully. Keep an eye on it though.
Our key takeaway is that this shouldn’t be anything new to those already writing quality content. It is just another step in the agenda that Google has been pushing for years.
