Yesterday we had a celebration of the iconic Sinéad O’Connor ♥️
I was lucky enough to be brought up listening to her incredible voice & always found her tenacity inspiring for SO many reasons 💫

>> 3rd hour I wanted to spin a icon session! Thank you so much for your suggestions - I didn’t make it through the whole list (I’m a sucker for seeing the whole track through!) but maybe we’ll pick up where we left off next week? 🤔

Also tried to find more unheard remixed versions with it being a dance music show ‘n all! 🥳

It’s time to put the past year (& a bit) to good use!

So me & have launched a podcast called 💕

For anyone thinking, what the hell is this about & why, I’ll fill you in briefly 😉

Last year I was told I had severe endometriosis, adenomyosis & 2 massive endometriomas aka blood filled cysts attached to my ovaries (sounds delightful right? 🤣). I was also told I needed to be operated on asap.

Getting a surgery date was like trying to push water uphill. I was rushed to A&E, told surgery would be months away to in a few weeks but all were to be cancelled.
In March I was lucky to make the choice to go private.

I’ll be honest. Recovery has been rough. Rougher than expected. Physically it was a doddle & I noticed the difference in my body as soon as I came round from surgery. But mentally it’s been a big challenge. Being in physical pain for a years takes a toll on your nervous system for sure, along with everything else. It also felt quite isolating at times, until I spoke to people.

Creating this podcast is absolutely a cathartic experience, but it’s much more than that.
We want to let others know they’re not alone. It’s an opportunity to hear from professionals, amplify the voices who need to be heard, help women understand their bodies & burst the bubble on these issues.

Before the op I had the pleasure of catching up with a DJ who hails as Finland’s biggest musical export, an international legend & someone who definitely played a pivotal part in my love for dance music - especially trance with an iconic track.

Long post ahead & health stuff related so don’t worry if it’s not for you ⚠️😅

What I’ve been told since finding a lump in my groin Jan’22:

You need an ultrasound. You’ve got 2 large cysts on your ovaries (one 9cm/one 3cm). You’re being referred to a cancer exclusion clinic. The average blood count is 37, your blood count is 1200. You need to be fast tracked for an MRI. You have severe endometriosis & endometriomas. Some of your organs are stuck together by the endometriosis. You need surgery asap. You’ll hear from us in 3 months. You’ll have surgery before the end of the year. You’re experiencing panic attacks. Your case hasn’t been discussed yet. You’re not listed for surgery yet. You need to come to gynaecology a&e for emergency surgery. You need to go home. You need surgery. You might be operated on tomorrow. Surgery won’t be today. You’re going down to surgery in 15 minutes. Surgery isn’t happening. Your surgery will be March/April 2023. Your fertility levels are very low, chances of naturally conceiving are low. Whilst you wait for surgery you could try a chemical induced menopause. “You should try private” said my surgeon who was leaving. A private consultant appointment is £250. You don’t need to go on a chemical induced menopause, you need surgery. You can have private surgery on the 17th January. It’s just under £7K for the surgery. Surgery with the NHS wont be until July/August this year. You won’t get a call from the NHS saying it’s any earlier. You need to confirm the private surgery date because other people are waiting. You can book private. The NHS team have discussed your case & can offer you 10th February. We can offer you an earlier date of the 3rd. Your surgery is cancelled. You can’t have your original date of the 10th Feb because other people are now listed. Your surgery will be March/April. You’re P3 you should’ve been seen within 12 weeks of your listing date. You’re a red flag. Your case has gone to surgical panel. Your case has been deemed as not urgent. Your surgery won’t be until June/July. You need to go private.
You’re booked in for the 4th March.

I took some inspiration from a very close friend & wrote this list for a bit of catharsis. After writing most of it down, it became pretty clear why I became such a nervous wreck over the past year - & in some places still. It’s definitely been as mentally challenging as it has been physically - if not more. I wanted to share because I know there’s a lot of people in similar situations. Where you feel like there’s no end in sight, your voice isn’t being heard & you’re not getting the treatment you need despite being in agony. I definitely underestimated the impact it initially had on me & what frustrates me the most is that I don’t think a lot of the medical “powers that be” actually understand how much all this information can impact someone’s mind & even their health. Counselling has been a big help for me, combined with incredible friends, family & partner. I know it’s not for everyone, for different reasons, but counselling has been one of a few big things that I think have helped not only with my mind but with my endometriosis.

I’m incredibly grateful to be in a situation where private surgery is an option even if it means borrowing money. I can’t quite believe the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. It still feels like someone’s going to pull the carpet from under my feet.

The scary reality is there’s A LOT of people who are in unexplained pain from (& much more) yet surgery is cancelled time & time again with not many alternatives aside from hormones &/or chemical induced menopauses (still blows my mind how that’s an option). Hopefully the more people talk & the more awareness of .uk - the better.

LDN day date, to me from me 💕

Mad how it’s not really that long ago that the thought of going somewhere on my own, like a restaurant or coffee shop or a even a different city (- that wasn’t for work) would have me panicking.

Mainly because I was worried other people would think I’m a total weirdo. Letting go of that feeling has been a journey but super empowering to the point I’m actually really looking forward to having a day to myself.

Plus. I forgot I actually like being a weirdo 😜

Never forget the importance of putting time back into yourself ♥️

2 days until surgery & I still can’t quite believe it. It’s such a weird feeling; when you’ve been waiting for something for so long, then as it quickly approaches you almost feel like backpedaling 😅 I’m 10000% not going to backpedal, it’s just a strange feeling but usually a feeling leads to good things.

The journey getting to this point has been one of the hardest I’ve encountered but I’m a big believer that this needed to happen. The things I’ve realised about myself, others & what really matters; are lessons I needed to learn. You can’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk, right?

I’ve been super quiet on here especially about the endo & cysts, mainly because I’ve managed nearly 2 months of undisturbed sleep & very minimal pain. I’m not 100% why. Part of me wonders if I should be at the top of the list if I’m not in pain or cause I’m sleeping or cause I’m not throwing up. But I guess if you’re asking yourself those questions, you have a reason to be on the list.

Despite feeling nervous (understatement) I’m so ready for this. 2023 is already shaping up to be a good year & I’m bloody ready for it, let me tell you!

Don’t stop pushing for yourself even when you feel like there’s no other road to go down ♥️

So near yet so far…..🤣

So Monday I got sent to the emergency gynaecology unit with the hope of these cysts being removed. After 2 nights in hospital & lots of waiting I got told this afternoon that I was going down for the op in 15 minutes 🤩

…..Only to be told about 5 minutes later that I wasn’t & that I could go home with stronger drugs 🤣

Yeah it was a little disappointing but if anything it’s just a reminder that nothing is ever guaranteed & keep fighting your corner.

It’s also been an eye opener to how amazing some of the nurses, doctors & everyone else working in the hospital are. They’re cut from a different & very special cloth ♥️

Another highlight was asking Andrew to bring some mango (meaning the prepared pieces) and he walks in triumphantly with a whole mango in his hand 🤣🥭

So back at home, feeling very lucky to have such amazing people around me, very grateful for understanding clients & appreciative of people who work in healthcare, especially my surgeon who is kicking off with everyone to try & get this surgery sorted asap 🤣

No sympathy needed just a reminder that there’ll be obstacles but KEEP PUSHING & fight your corner.

Especially when it comes to your health ♥️
