Reposted from @sally_dige I’m not one to listen to my own songs because I find that I can never enjoy listening to them when all I will focus on is: “the mix bothers me, I should have chosen a better snare sound, the vocals should have been louder in the mix, that arrangement is a mess, I don’t like the way I was singing in that song, those lyrics are stupid” etc.
Do we ever find satisfaction when looking back at our past work, or am I too self-critical?
But as it was 4am and I could not sleep at all; lying in my bed in the dark, I decided to take a listen to some of my songs, including “It’s You I’m Thinking Of”, which I hadn’t listened to since I released the track.
My first thought was “Wow, this is a great song!”and I don’t normally think that about my own songs, perhaps it’s the classic insecure-inferiority-complex Artist mind.
The next day, I was tagged in this beautiful poster design that @postersofsomesort made of the song (I will share her poster in its own post because it really deserves it!) So today I allow myself to accept that I too, can make nice things.
