The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has announced a nationwide strike on July 5 to protest the government's decision to impose a 0.5% advance tax. PPDA chairman Abdul Sami Khan mentioned that discussions with the government are scheduled in Islamabad on Monday.

However, if these talks do not yield a satisfactory outcome, petrol pumps across Pakistan will be closed as planned. Khan expressed serious concerns about the advance turnover tax, warning that the strike could be extended beyond a single day if necessary and urged the government to revoke the tax immediately to prevent severe business disruptions for petrol dealers.

In related news, the federal government recently increased the petrol price by Rs 7.45 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs 265.61 per litre, up from Rs 258.16 per litre, adding further pressure to the already inflation-burdened public. The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has also been raised by Rs 9.56, bringing the new cost to Rs 277.45 per litre.

Additionally, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government has proposed a significant 33% hike in the petroleum levy on petroleum products and a 50% increase in the levy on high-octane, light diesel, and ethanol, which would result in an additional Rs 50 charge per litre for these fuels following the proposal's approval.

Like most eagles, the female “harpy” is almost twice as large as the male. The harpy eagle's legs can be as thick as a small child's wrist, and its curved, back talons are larger than grizzly bear claws at 5 inches (13 centimeters) long! The harpy may not be the largest bird of prey (that title belongs to the Andean condor), but this extraordinary creature is definitely the heaviest and most powerful of birds.
