SFN brings together more than 16 organizations that work on food security and sub(urban) community resilience, including Feed Scarborough, Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS), Access Alliance and Feeding City.

FarmtoCafeteria Canada has an upcoming webinar for those who are looking for ideas on how to appropriately incorporate Indigenous plants and ways of knowing into your teaching gardens. We’re pleased to announce two guest speakers: Lori Snyder will be joining us from the land of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples (Vancouver, BC) where she works with students from K-12, and Tristan Landry will be joining us from the land of the W8banaki, the Ndakina. K’wlipaï8ba W8banakiak wdakiw8k (Sherbrooke, QC) to share his experiences working in the historical garden of the university. The presentations will be in both English and French and simultaneous translation will be offered. After the presentations, we will host breakout sessions for participants to connect and share ideas with each other.

The Save, Preserve & Serve (SPS) project seeks to make the link between food and environmental issues through tackling food waste building skills around food preservation

We are calling for resident leaders to join us!

- 10 SPS Leader positions are available;

- All ages are welcome;

- We provide all the materials and honorarium for SPS leaders;

- Priority will be given to newcomers & racialized SPS Leaders.

- Must have experience in food preservation

The South Scarborough Community Coordination Plan (CCP) project on Food Security and Mental Health, funded by the City of Toronto and United Way and supported by Feed Scarborough and Birchmount Bluffs Community Centre, is inviting you to a conversation on "Recognizing and Supporting Grassroots Work on Food Security" on Monday December 13th from 11 am to 12:30pm.

During this workshop, community leaders from Frontline Connections and East Scarborough Storefront will join the CCP Grant Team in examining the role of grassroots initiatives in the food security landscape and how social agencies can best support their work. Collaborators hope to engage community stakeholders in a discussion on authentic support for grassroots, including collaborative mechanisms and best practices.

Andrea Yovorsky worked with local fisheries, chefs, farmers, consumers and other food system advocates of Prince Rupert, Northern British Columbia. Due to the area’s relative remoteness, its difficult food growing conditions, and its social economic inequalities, there is a high rate of food insecurity among Northern populations. Read more:
