Welcome to the Wastes is a wasteland radio-style podcast written and created by Grimm Grinner (Edward Grimm). As Grimm and CJ venture around the wastes, they'll collect tales from the settlements they come across and the characters they meet, all while avoiding the enforcers from the corporations running the G*T, and bring them to the ears of anyone that can catch their signal.

After hours of formatting and reformatting, it is done! Welcome To The Wastes Zine Volume 2 is finally done!

I'll be putting it up for preorder on Friday (Sept 6) at 3pm EST.

Each copy will be made to order (supplies are tight, but I'm working with what I have!), and on the 17th when it goes live completely, I'll have updated listings for both volumes!

Doing a BUNCH of formatting today, as well as the first test print!

Volume 2 of the Welcome To The Wastes zine, titled "Caps, Static, & Stories" will be available for pre-sale later this week. I'll also be setting up an option to buy both volumes, and sending out a small discount code for the new one to anyone that bought Volume 1!

This one has been a labour of love the past few weeks, and I'm happy to say that the content I didn't arrange in time for this volume will be in the big 5th year celebration zine next year.

What's this? Another Fallout thing I'm working on??

It's definitely a backburner item for now, but I'm hoping to put together a small Fallout mini-zine that will more or less be a sort of condensed stats tracker for the TTRPG. Something I can give to other Fallout friends, or even eventually players (if I get a game started).

It's been a nice little side project to cool my brain off, as I've been dealing with a lot of burn out and rough situations the past few weeks. Working on silly little things provides a bit of mental distraction while I work through the big stuff in my life and for the show.

It's a rough time out there, which makes finding joy tricky, but so worth it, no matter how much you're able to scavenge.

So Fan Expo was a lot more than expected, which is why I didn't post the scavenger hunt stories yesterday. It was still a lot of fun, just a lot to take in while having a fun time.

The scavenger hunt packs were conveniently placed as we went throughout the day though, along with a handful of other promo packs being given out. The rest will be saved for future events, so keep an eye out for those when they happen!

I did come away with a pretty fantastic haul, too! Not as many things as previous years (kept under budget, yay!), but all amazing items!

First up, a stimpack, rad-away ice pack, and some caps by , which are all wonderfully made, and highlights of my day.

Next up was a Hazbin Hotel candle and stickers by , which has become almost a standard table for me to buy from over the years. The candle is roasted espresso scented, which is perfect for me.

Last purchase of the day was this cute pip-boy patch by the tilly p (can't tag them, sadly), which I can't wait to put on something.

It was so much fun wandering the con floor and seeing some friendly and familiar faces (bonus shout out to for being my go-to first table visit every con, and always being so awesome!). Looking forward to the next big event to wasteland it up!

Con Promo has been prepped!!

I finally put the finishing touches on the promo stuff I'm bringing to the con on Sunday! It's been a slightly slower process with the zine work and writing a new mini-series set in the world of Welcome To The Wastes that I've also been hard at work on.

I've got a handful of exclusive mini-zine packs with caps and buttons in them, as well as will have a whole bunch of other little goodies to give out to wasteland and Fallout cosplayers! And most exciting, I have 3 very special mini-zine packs that I'll be hiding around the convention! I'll be posting clues to each one on my story for each one, so tune in for those hints on the day!

I'm also going to be working on some new ideas and stuff for the next convention I attend. I've felt some inspiration lately, and want to make some big upgrades for the future.

Grimm himself is on a sort of hiatus for a little while, wastelanders. A mid-season break, if you will.

Picked up passes, and prepping promo!

This weekend is Fan Expo Canada, and while I wish I could be there all four days, I also need to work to pay the bills and keep food in my gut. So I'll only be there on the Sunday, alongside ! I'm so excited to wander the floors and check out everything we can for the day, it's been far too long.

I'm also being smart and not overdoing it with how much promo stuff I bring, so that I have less to carry and worry about. So that also means it's more limited! I'm potentially going to hide a couple things as a sort of scavenger hunt, so there will be chances to find a couple things if you can't find me.

But if you do find me, then say hi! I'm always happy to meet some wastelanders in person!

Gearing up for Fan Expo this week by making a whole bunch of promo stuff! Buttons, caps, mini-zines, and more will be on me for wandering the floor on the last day of the convention.

☢️Convention Time!☢️

That's right, for just one day, I'll be wandering the convention floor at Fan Expo Canada 2024! I'm excited to be hitting up a convention again, especially since I wasn't able to make it for the big one last year.

I'll be wandering in what I call "Grimm Grinner Lite", meaning most of my Wastes gear, but possibly a WttW shirt for promotional purposes. I'll also be handing out promo packs with caps and buttons, and may even have a small scavenger hunt planned for the day! Working on a new mini-zine this week to print off for that specifically.

Grimm's going away for a bit, to a hidden location, at rhe behest of Jailbreak's old mentor, The Tinkerer. This is definitely not a trap this time, right??

This is a sort of mid-season finale break, while I work on everything for the merch store revamp, as well as the next wave of proper episodes. The next couple episodes will be some fun filler, and an upcoming Grimm Grinner's Cache (remember when I wanted to do those???). We'll pick back up with Grimm after those, with some new friends and new stories to tell!

Lots of upgrades are already happening for the Welcome To The Wastes art game!

This is just a quick taste of what I've been working on in between writing and recording the past 2 weeks. I've got some new zine pages in the works, as well as I'm practicing some other designs that can be used for buttons and caps and other merch!

I'm also looking forward to coming up with other art projects that could turn into some really interesting thumbnails or other pieces for you all to enjoy!

I'm having a bit of fun working away on my new tablet, which means upgrades to designs for episodes, for merch, and more in the future. The current project is practicing and working on the designs for the Pin Of The Month and Zine Volume 2, and then who knows what else?

Birthday surprises come in the best ways, don't they?

I've always had hit or miss birthday experiences in the past, with a lot of times leaning towards misses than hits. So of course, I never try to ask for gifts, or even expect any surprise gifts for the occasion. Family will sometimes send me money, or get me something fun and up my alley, usually off an amazon list, but otherwise, I stopped asking for particular items.

This year, however, was a hit. First, kicked it off with the most beautifully made bleach painted shirt featuring Calvin as Grimm Grinner, and the full Mad Max collection (up to Fury Road Black & Chrome). This shirt is immediately one of my favourite things, especially with it being such a point of deep lore. Wonderfully done, and fits so perfectly.

Then, made me a secret bomb stash, styled to look like a pile of TNT! This thing lights up, and was crafted so well, and I can't wait to reorganize some things to have a spot to display it. Fantastic work, as always!!

And of course, I didn't just get one shirt. Beth also picked up a red t-shirt and a bunch of fabric markers, and we laid it out for the party so that everyone could take time throughout the night to draw on it or write a message to me for my birthday. This was such a cute and lovely idea that I started tearing up when it was mentioned, and had so much fun watching my friends graffiti this shirt for me.

This wasn't everything, either! Not pictured in this post is the adventure cooler backpack my mom put together so that Beth and I could go on some small trips around the city and have little picnics and journeys; the tablet I boughtwith the money from my grandfather for working on Wastes stuff on the go; and the Fallout show posters I already made a post about a week ago.

All around, this birthday ended up being more amazing than I could have asked for, and does certainly make me look forward to planning some more fun shenanigans in the future!

Now to go and tend to the sunburn from spending the day in a waterpark yesterday.

☢️ About Last Night... ☢️

Rang in 35 with a Bunker party to remember! Snacks, a fun game involving flipping caps onto various challenges, and good times (with a bit of chalk paint graffiti in there for good measure). I feel so lucky to have been able to celebrate in style, and have such a fun night!

Of course, it's not over 'til it's over, I'll have another post showing off the wonderful little gifts I was given that rocked my entire world.

Reports have been coming in from some reputable sources that a certain settlement, formerly claimed by The Corporations as a "Reclamation Zone" has been taken back by a group of intrepid wastelanders. Has Haven truly been saved??

It's all coming together...

In the spirit of celebrating my impending birthday, I may have ordered a few extra things online to finally pull together my vault suit. Some leather armour for my shoulder, a utility belt for carrying caps and ammo (among other trinkets), and the con-friendly foam laser pistol replica all feel like I'm finally pulling this look together.

Of course, Grimm Grinner will always be my go-to, but after all this time, I'm happy to have a vault dweller look I can bring to a convention. The only thing not pictured here is the Pip-Boy, because I'm working on making some slight enhancements to make it more durable for conventions. It is the build it yourself one, so I want to make sure it can withstand being out and about on my wrist without breaking, unless I can manage to get my hands on a different one somehow.

I might also be planning on wearing this look at the end of the week, when I ring in 35!

Starting this September, and ending next, the Pin Of The Month Club is going to be such a fun endeavor for me over the next year!

I'm excited to be making a bunch of these bottle cap pins, with a bunch of different designs. I have the first one in mind already, and am working away on filling in the other 12 months. Of course, the designs for the last pin in the collection is going to be a mystery until it comes out, so if you want to see what that one is, you'll have to wait and see!

The first pin anyone orders will also come with a checklist, so if you just want to order them one at a time, you can keep track of the ones you collect!

Did some parallel play last night with , me playing New Vegas, and her cuddled up with Cuphead, and what a lovely time it was just relaxing and giggling at the shenanigans going on in both games.

Of course, I've made it to The Strip, and really had no other choice than to take Benny out. I just can never stand to risk being backstabbed by him. Following that, I found my favourite securitron, and am already feeling like I'm going to have to go down his road for the chosen ending of this playthrough.

I just love my robots! They're just sweet lil guys, that's all.

What happens on a quiet night at work? Well, obviously cleaning and my job, but during that dinner break, I design a fun little Fallout RPG Character Journal.

Working on the designs using elements of the character sheet to put together some pages at the front for all the same info, and then a bunch of note pages as well as some quick reference materials in the back. This is a fun mental distraction project for me, while I deal with some more mental health shenanigans alongside writer's block.

Who else is playing this TTRPG? I've been debating setting up some sort of game in the future, either in person with local friends, or maybe some online playing, who knows!

Grimm has been searching high and low for a very particular treat from the Old World, and might have finally found some!

Fun fact: while I've made a cocktail version of the Atomic Maple, it does not yet exist in real life. But recipes have been worked on, and may one day be available to savour out in the dust.

(Also, yes, the concept for Grimm searching for a bottle of his fave soda IS inspired by my love of Nuka Break)

Got a dogtag printed yesterday while at the theme park with Mama Coug, and it goes so perfectly with my other wastes accoutrements!

As I get closer to my birthday, and past that, another year of having done this podcast, I'm constantly reminded of how far I've come, and how much more there is ahead of me. Stories yet to be written and told, adventures to go on, things to learn, new and old friends to meet.

I can't wait to share in all of it with those I love, as well as the rest of you out there, wasteland.

☢️ 35 is going to be a VICTORY 🍾

It's my birthday in exactly 3 weeks, and I know exactly what I'll be drinking!! Happened across the Amazon listing for a 4 pack of the limited release of Nuka Cola Victory for the cheapest I've seen it (about $50CAD), so I had to jump on it!

It's going to be difficult to not drink them between now and the special day, but I've got a decent amount of willpower to resist the urge!

Grimm's first guest list premiere for FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA! After the fan experience the other day, I ended up getting me and Longshot onto the guest list for the special fan screening of Furiosa last night, here in Toronto! George Miller was in attendance, alongside warboys, wastelanders, and tons of fans! This was such a wild experience, and it certainly won't be the last. The film is astounding, and lives up to every bit of the hype surrounding it. I'm so excited to go see it again very soon. It's truly epic, and has me so hyped for more wasteland shenanigans in the future. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is in theatres May 24, 2024. Posting this A LOT later than expected, but I had such an amazing time at the #furiosa experience today at the Roundhouse Park here in Toronto! The crowds were so fantastic, and the crew of Warboys hyping everyone up and handing out movie swag were amazing! This experience will be going on for one more day at the time of posting this, and is worth the trek down to check it out! I've been stuck at home in The Bunker the past few days with some sort of plague (don't worry, not the feral virus), and so I spent a bit of that time editing some more photos on my phone into this pixelated, video game style. This little creative aside was a lot of fun to just do, and kept my mind off of the crummy way I'm feeling while I'm sick. "Before The Fall" Teaser Clip

One week until "Before The Fall" hits the airwaves. So much work went into this episode, from packing it with small little easter eggs, to getting other people to voice some of the characters. It is longer than any of my previous episodes, clicking in at just under 16 minutes. And as simple as the design for the artwork is, it's absolutely perfect, and I'm very proud of the work I put into it. (So proud I turned it into one of the collector cards you could get with a merch purchase) I can't wait for you to all hear this episode, the second last one of the season. I'm already hard at work on pre-production and writing on season 2, and will hopefully have some more episodes close to the scale of this one, or maybe even bigger in scale.
