Had my first research interview today with Jessica McDiarmid, author of Highway of Tears: A True Story of Racism, Indifference and the Pursuit of Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The care and attention Jessica took to tell the stories of Indigenous women has inspired the approach I will be taking in this podcast series.

Since the book came out, Jessica and I have formed a relationship via email. We were supposed to meet in person in Fall 2019 but fate had other plans. We've stayed in touch and communicated a lot recently. I was delighted to finally (virtually) meet her today!
Jessica shared with me more about the research she did for her book and the relationships with loved ones she continues to foster along the highway. She offered me some great advice and perspective as I told her about this project. I know Jessica will continue to a support to me throughout this research phase and beyond.

If you haven't yet, please take the time to read Jessica's book. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/548115/highway-of-tears-by-jessica-mcdiarmid/9780385687591
