Greetings everyone. So here we are, back at the beginning of Tammy’s Musical Stew. This is the episode that started it all. Back in summer of 2020, I was asked to be part of a collective of various music types from all backgrounds. They wanted to start an online grass roots radio station celebrating Edmonton, Alberta and Canadian music. But from the perspective of regular folks, and put our spin on things. We would stream Canadian artists old and new thru the day, but create unique shows evenings and wknds to show off our personal experiences & collections.

I initially started as a music connection/consultant and eventually was asked to be interviewed to tell the listeners who I was, why I was here. So how do you describe yourself in an hour with about 12 songs or so??? What moments, what songs really relate to you? Shape you, help you cope or experience life ? What are you willing to share about yourself that many people will hear! Every person interviewed obviously had a diff show. Some quirky, upbeat and totally crazy! But some of us, well took it as a chance to be retrospective inward and let it all out. . .

So here’s that episode of “who is Tammy ?” What is my background and what songs represent that? I warn you I get very real, raw and personal, but the experience was very cathartic and healing as well. 🥹

After recording this episode, I was offered a weekly spot on the station. This was the launchpad of Tammy’s Musical Stew! I recorded a total of 48 episodes between 2 stations and put my heart and soul into each one. I like a little bit of everything, so my shows reflected that. James Brown, Garth Brooks, Italian opera or disco! There’s something for everyone in my shows. I also featured 3 local artists in many episodes to help highlight the AMAZING talent we have around here. Then the special theme episodes “Men of Music. Women of music. Colors. Travel. Halloween. Christmas!! etc “. I definitely had some fun coming up with song ideas.

I hope you enjoy this show and next Saturday I will start with Season 1 Episode 1, then continue each Saturday with the following episodes. Thank you for coming along in my journey and having a helping of Musical stew . . .

🇬🇧 Mystic Festival 2025 will take place from 𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟳 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 in Gdansk Shipyard, Poland!

Mystic Festival was born in 1999. Some of the biggest names in and around metal have already performed in Poland under this banner, including Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, Bruce Dickinson, Bring Me the Horizon, Machine Head, Slipknot, Celtic Frost, Sabaton, King Diamond, Nightwish, Mercyful Fate, Opeth i Emperor. After editions in Krakow, Wroclaw, Chorzow and Katowice, and a hiatus of several years, Mystic Festival returned to the map in 2019 in Krakow, and finally found its place in the unique space of Gdansk Shipyard.

Todd Crawshaw was the huuge influence on me in 2020 & beyond when he was key creator in 2 online radio stations. We were just casual “name only”acquaintances on Facebook, he reached out and said hey “You’re a mover and a shaker in the music scene, you support local everything. I would like to do a 1 hour special about you!” Well halfway thru recording that he said “You should have a show. . . 😮”.

Thus Tammy’s Musical Stew was born!! 1.5 years and 48 episodes later, I was self producing my shows that last 6 months. Todd was a mentor, producer, and “bad influence” 😏 . . . . but also a friend and confidant. I’m forever grateful for making me step waaaaaay outside my comfort zone week after week, learning new skills, opening the door to new opportunities and just introducing me to wonderful people!

So 4 years ago today (Dec 11, 2020) I made a special announcement. A secret that a few people partially knew. Today Tammy’s Musical Stew radio show was officially made public !!! What a journey it has been!

It was born of the pandemic. A way to bring a collective of various people of musical backgrounds and styles together, to give a purpose not only for the Curators but the listeners we were programming for. All the Curators contributed to the various licensing fees of the stations (2 different ones) so it truly was a “Collective Radio Station”. We actively recruited Canadian artists to fill our programming library and let them be heard when the big stations pass them over. With shows of jazz, blues, rock, punk, electronic, classical etc and various mixed types. There was and STILL is something for everyone. It was a labour of love and passion for everyone as nobody was paid. We were all volunteers excited to show our love of music to whoever was listening.

In these 2 years and 2 different radio stations, Tammy’s Musical Stew produced 48 episodes and 10 “Stew on the Street” interviews. Although I left Big E Radio in March of 2022 to return to my other passion of baking as Flour Child Baked Goods. I wholeheartedly support my friends still there and the station going strong continuing the mission of bringing great Canadian music to the world ! 🤘🏻🇨🇦

Curating and producing a weekly show is no easy task (averaging 15 hrs a week) especially a mixed genre one like mine! To go from Garth Brooks to James Brown to Italian opera. . . well it has to make sense! Most episodes I featured 3 local artists to highlight them to a bigger audience. Some feedback I received later that it DID HELP and having their music heard on the airwaves was a dream come true. Many song selections and certain episodes I truly put my heart and soul forward.

My emotions, passion came through of why this show or song meant something to me. To cry during the show or off air. You certainly don’t hear that on commercial radio!! That’s what I loved about this whole idea of a community radio station. We could cry, laugh, snort, swear and drink because we were in home studios being REAL. Showing a different side or perhaps our “true selves” that not many realized was there! Doing this show and being part of something bigger, was very healing, creative, frustrating, joyful, emotional learning experience. It truly did make me a better person and have made many fantastic connections because of it 😊

Going back to radio is not off the table, as I’ve been asked back many times. It’s just a matter of the right time and circumstance to do it! I will continue to do replays of my show on both my personal and show pages for anyone to listen. I want to send a honest heartfelt thank you to those that believed in me in the beginning and saw something that I didn’t. My mentors and producers that guided me until I was self producing my own shows. The family and friends that listened and promoted me. I have fans in Australia, Finland and Mexico among others 😃. To all the bands and artists I’ve been involved in whatever ways . . . KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO and thank you everyone!!
