With over 300+ short film projects submitted in the first quarter, we are thrilled to invite you to the "Lonthon Shorts Fund Q1 2024 Pitch Battle" organised by Studio Lonthon.
Five (5) groundbreaking and thought-provoking short film projects are shortlisted through a meticulous selection process, guided by artistic merit, storytelling prowess, and the potential for impact.
These five young directors/producers and their short film projects were chosen to attend our first Pitch Battle by Studio Lonthon's panel of industry experts and creatives.
Each team will get 15 minutes to showcase the merit of their project in front of our jury and the world.
Lonthon Shorts Fund is a quarterly short film financing platform for young directors and producers which is the first of its kind in South Asia.
We aim to scout, nurture and empower aspiring filmmakers in Bangladesh and strive to contribute to a richer, more varied cinematic landscape that reflects the vast diversity of human experiences in South Asia.
The platform also has a goal to turn this Bangladeshi platform into a global film market and democratise the barrier to entry into the filmmaking industry.

We pray and hope that you will attend the first-of-its-kind ONLINE event as Lonthon Shorts Fund continues its journey, dedicated to fostering a vibrant ecosystem for short filmmakers.
The fund envisions expanding its reach, and budget, forging new collaborations, and being a catalyst for the creation of impactful short films that resonate with audiences worldwide.

The 5 shortlisted projects for the "Lonthon Shorts Fund Q1 2024 Pitch Battle" will be announced on our socials tonight.

The Cemetery Gates is a painting by artist Marc Chagall. Marc Zakharovich Chagall was a Russian-French artist of Belarusian Jewish origin. An early modernist, he was associated with several major artistic styles and created works in a wide range of artistic formats, including painting, drawings, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramic tapestries and fine art prints. Chagall's art was directly influenced by political events in Russia. The Bolshevik revolution was to bring new optimism for Chagall and according to him was the most important event in his life. The artist's interest in Hebrew traditions and affection for the past can be sensed in Cemetery Gates. The very stones seem to cry out in these dramatic canvases enriched with elements of Cubism. This painting currently can be found at Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaïsme, Paris, France.

Twilight is a painting by Georges Rouault. Georges Henri Rouault was a French painter, draughtsman, and print artist, whose work melded Fauvism and Expressionism with its jewel-like tones and bold graphic lines. Alongside Henri Matisse, André Derain, Rouault culled from his spiritual fervor and knowledge of medieval stained glass to produce resonating portraits, landscapes, religious scenes, and still lifes. Twilight is one of many biblical landscapes the artist completed between 1929 and 1939. Although the painting’s title does not reference a specific story, the central figures who encounter blocked doorways under a darkening sky may be Joseph and Mary seeking shelter in Bethlehem, for Mary to give birth to the infant Christ.

Dona i Ocell (Woman and Bird) is a 22-meters high sculpture by Joan Miró located in the Parc Joan Miró in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The sculpture was covered in tiles by the artist's collaborator Joan Gardy Artigas. The sculpture is part of an artwork trilogy commissioned from Miró to welcome visitors to Barcelona. Joan Miró i Ferrà was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. A museum dedicated to his work, the Fundació Joan Miró, was established in his native city of Barcelona in 1975, and another, the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, was established in his adoptive city of Palma de Mallorca in 1981. Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeois society, and declared an "assassination of painting" in favour of upsetting the visual elements of established painting.

Four Trees is a painting by Egon Schiele. Egon Schiele was an Austrian painter. A protégé of Gustav Klimt, Schiele was a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. His work is noted for its intensity and its raw s*xuality, and the many self-portraits the artist produced, including naked self-portraits. The twisted body shapes and the expressive line that characterize Schiele's paintings and drawings mark the artist as an early exponent of Expressionism. Even though Discussion of Schiele's short but illustrious oeuvre is dominated by his portraits, landscape paintings do extend to a large segment of his work, and also serve as an intriguing comparison to Klimt's own landscape paintings.

No. 61 (Rust and Blue) is a painting by the Russian-American artist Mark Rothko. Markus Yakovlevich Rothkowitz was an American painter of Lithuanian Jewish descent. This work was first exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1961. In common with Rothko's other works from this period, No. 61 consists of large expanses of color delineated by uneven, hazy shades. The Rust and Blue painting was a part of the Color Field Movement because No. 61 relies on subtle tonal values that are often variations of a monochromatic hue. Rust and Blue also uses layered coloring to enrich the hues in the painting, a quality the artist Mark Rothko described as "inner light". Rothko painted in such a way that at times paint can be seen flowing upward across the surface. This illusion is caused because Rothko would invert his painting toward the final stages of his work. This effect can be seen in No.61. Although Rothko himself refused to adhere to any art movement, he is generally identified as an abstract expressionist. No. 61 is now kept at Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, USA.

Evening; Red Tree is a oil on canvas painting by the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. This painting shows the artist's luminist period where he painted realistically but with brighter than actual colors and simplifying contours. This painting is a cross-over to his more rectangular and analytical style. Mondrian painted this painting in the Zeeland coastal resort of Domburg, at that time a popular artist's colony in the summer months. His trees illustrate his shift towards abstract cubism. Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan was a painter and theoretician who is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He is known for being one of the pioneers of 20th-century abstract art, as he changed his artistic direction from figurative painting to an increasingly abstract style, until he reached a point where his artistic vocabulary was reduced to simple geometric elements. This oil painting is currently in Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, The Hague, Netherlands.
