We dropped into the water right out the front of the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre. Swell was still around, but we were greeted by a school of blowies on the reef who let me tag along with them for a while, a ray that had no tail and nice schools of bait fish.

In the stunning waters of Parker Point at Rottnest Island, there are 24 species of coral in the clear shallow waters. The most dominant species being cauliflower coral that has settled and grown here, swept south by the Leeuwin Current.

This is one of the shots in a little reef pool from the VR camera test we did last week in the Marmion Marine Park. Lots of little schools of bait fish. The swell was rolling over the reef. It’s a great snapshot of life along our Perth metro coast.
We’ve had some feedback from people watching the VR video on their phones and can’t see it. Here’s a tip If you tilt your phone to horizontal view and move your phone around – left to right and tilt it up and down – you’ll be able to see the whole VR Picture

Just got our new underwater VR camera and housing. Testing it in the Marmion Marine Park as research on a film we intend to produce on the Leeuwin Current. Tide and swell just popped up a little, so the visibility wasn’t that great. Will keep a watch on the weather for the next filming window. Still beautiful out there and a pleasure to explore all the little nooks and crannies in the reef.

The Wiluna Martu Rangers VR short film “Wiluna Martu Rangers - Protecting Country and Culture” that we produced for the Tarlka Matuwa Piarku Aboriginal Corporation won the WA Screen and Culture Awards for the Innovation in VR category. What a beautiful surprise. Wiluna Martu Elder Annette Williams and Wiluna Martu Ranger Manager Dr Dorian Moro were there on Sunday night to collect the award and I was lucky enough to be invited up with them to share the moment. It’s an honour for us to be able to work with the mob and wonderful for them to be recognised for the work they do on Country. I look forward to sharing details of the film of when and where it will be released.
