Most business owners I chat to don’t have a marketing problem.

They have a “too many messages” problem.

Let me ask you something -
Can you articulate why someone should choose you over a similar business?

‘Cos that’s the exact question your customer asks before they buy.

What they see -

1 The website says one thing.
2 Your elevator pitch at events says another.
3 And then the Instagram bio is a different message again

None of it’s wrong.
It’s just…undefined. Blurry.

A blurry business is a hard business to write for.

Relief incoming - you don’t need to do more marketing. Instead, you need clarity

You’ve built something, now it’s time to define it.

That’s the thing about holidays.

You take one to get away from everything - school run, life and get time out from your business…but a few days in, you start seeing it more clearly.

Stuff that’s working. Things you need to change and what you keep saying about what you do that doesn’t quite fit anymore.

The elevator pitch. The casual intro.

That’s what putting a bit of space between you and your business does.

We’re slap bang right in our business. In the thick of it. In the jar if you like. In fact sometimes we’re in the goo that’s inside the jar.

And you can’t read the label from inside the jar - a holiday switches your perspective for a bit. ✨

The catch? That shifts back. You get home, get busy, climb back into the jar.

So I’m writing those thoughts down while I’m still out here. 📝

I assume most unsolicited emails are scams but this one worried me

So I spoke to the company who host my website

- a real person
- in Perth
- immediately

His reply

“It is legit, but nothing to worry about - basically saying the SSL certificate doesn't cover those two domains (which you don't use anyway as your email is through google)
So you can just ignore the email.”

And that is why I have a local business host my website

Thinking before I write

Some Might Say ( ) I overthink

Look, when it comes to outfits, my first drink and what card to get you for your birthday then…Guilty as charged

But, when it comes to clients - they don’t just partner with me to write

They *want* me to think

They want me to understand how their business shows up and who their customers are

They need me to distill their offer and clarify their message

To do all that, I sit (with coffee) and think.

I write down or type out some ideas but mostly it’s thinking.

Then I walk and connect the dots.

And only then do I start to write.
