Hot air balloons! There are so many highlights in Cappadocia but this is a bucket list ✅ for us. Been on balloons before so really wanted to witness the magic of seeing these take off just before sunrise. Watching them light up one after the other and seeing the morning glow was truly a magical experience and dare I say romantic too.

This has by far been our favourite city in Türkiye. Cappadocia has one of the most unique landscapes like no other destination that we have visited before. Also so much history dating as far back to the 10th century! We loved exploring the different areas such as Goreme, Pigeon Valley, Love Valley and more. Even claiming hikers status as we’ve conquered a few of the walking trails. The open air Museum has about five churches which still has the original frescoes and some are still in fair condition. Fascinating stuff!

CAPPADOCIA! What a place! We have a few posts on this most unique region. We stayed in a cave hotel which provided breakfast every day and we also ate the occasional dinner there too. The food was a lovely surprise for us, all homemade by the grandma of the family running the hotel. Here are a few of the meals we had (mostly breakfast).
Lots of bread with every meal as you would expect in Turkey, and everything rounded off with a tea!

We took a high speed train from Istanbul to the capital city of Ankara. We were pleasantly surprised by Ankara and enjoyed our 5 days there. We visited their castle for some great views over the city, and also the mausoleum of the Republic's first president Ataturk - who is still revered in Türkiye even today.
Overall a lovely stay!

There are stray cats literally everywhere in Istanbul. They seem well looked after by the locals with food often left out for them.
Spotted these two fast asleep in a shop window display!

How cute is this Giant 3D cat billboard located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The cat can be seen in a variety of different short scenes keeping the crowd well entertained.

We ended our time in Japan with a week in Tokyo, and it was amazing. We have both fallen in love with Japan and will definitely return.
We could only scratch the surface of this great city in one week, but
here's a look back at some of the many highlights of Tokyo.

Only in Bangkok
Came down in lift from the hotel room, doors open and the foyer has around fifteen ladyboys in full gear looking at us. Squeezed past (carefully) . Was too taken aback to get a pic.

Not what we were expecting at all😁

Hidden deep beneath the streets of Asakusa is the Ninja Bar. The entrance is down a narrow staircase, with no signage. We took the gamble and ventured down anyway. One of our best decisions as we had an awesome night drinking with some locals and ex-pats.
The Ninja barman and everyone at the bar made us feel very welcome.

We are staying in the Asakusa district of Tokyo, which is home to the Senso-Ji temple (Tokyo's oldest temple, and most visited). Leading up to the temple is Nakamise-dori Street, which is Japan's oldest shopping street. Opposite the temple is an observation deck that gives a bird's eye view of the shopping street and temple.

A must do when in Japan is to ride the Shinkansen (bullet train) at least once. We took it from Osaka to Tokyo (around 500 km) and the journey took exactly two and a half hours. We had a few stops along the way and we used an app to measure our speed which hit over 280kmh several times. We even got to see Mount Fuji 🗻 along the way.
We made life easy for ourselves by forwarding our luggage to our Tokyo hotel the day before, which made this travel day a breeze.

The world headquarters of Asahi beer in the background with their famous Golden Flame symbol. Affectionately known as the golden turd by the locals. For some reason Corinne said “good, two for the price of one” after taking this shot 😗

Kema Sakuranomiya Park is one of the best spots in Osaka to enjoy the cherry blossom. Families and friends of all ages out and enjoying their picnics under the cherry blossom.
The blossom stretches for around 2km along the riverside.

Found a lovely little coffee shop called Melbourne Coffee. Owned by an Australian and managed by this lovely lady - Mao. She made us feel welcome and offered great local advice every time we visited.
They also do great coffee!😀

Tōdaiji, ("Great Eastern Temple") is one of Japan's most famous and historically significant temples and a landmark of Nara. It is the world's largest wooden building, and home to a 15M high bronze buddha. Looks even more beautiful when you add a sprinkle of cherry blossom.
