Huge congrats to Studio member, Sera Waters, in another amazing show @ AGSA! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🔥

Double flower spoiling occurred tonight 🌸 thanks to and Art Gallery of South Australia]] at the special launch of Future Traditions, my 2020 Guildhouse Fellowship show. They’re so beautiful!!! Truly, I should be giving everyone flowers! I still can’t believe I’ve been so supported in my semi-madness to bring together almost 70 components in gallery 8, borrowing from numerous collections (including and and Art Gallery of South Australia]]) and videos, tear offs (with and ), my own collection, wallpapers, artworks, books and more! Thank you for steering this wild ride with grace and calm, and to for finding all the solutions. The Art Gallery of South Australia]] team, in all of its machinations, have been so supportive and encouraging in seeing this project realised. And of course none of this could have been even conceived of without the generous enabled by the 🙏 📸 by 🙏

I’m very pleased to find out that I’m a finalist in the Heysen Prize for Landscape for my work ‘Passing through oceans of time’.

We went camping in the Southern Flinders Ranges not too long ago, the highlight for me was walking through The Narrows in Alligator Gorge. I felt the weight of time, being surrounded on both sides by such an old formation as we walked along the ravine.

Here we were, passing through something that had formed millions of years ago, long before our genetic ancestors had even evolved into our species. And here the formation will remain, long after a time when our species will have faded away.

From the artist:

With travel being impossible over the last two years, in absentia I have once again been drawn to the immutable Cradle Mountain. A person's perceptions of place are entirely subjective and independent from the object of interest and are subject to the currents of their culture and personal experience. Be it a broad cultural understanding or a personal refection, the experience of an environment is a construct and proximity to that environment does not necessarily affect that experience. Though an individual may gain pleasure from being in a place that has meaning for them, absence does not lessen their understanding and narrative of that place; all is shifted, twisted, constrained, and expanded to fit that understanding and narrative.

Congratulations Datsun! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Posted • I’m feeling very humbled to be a finalist in the $25,000 Maritime Art Prize this year. The theme for 2022 was ‘humanity and the sea’, and as a child from a family of people who had to escape their home country, this theme is very important to me.

I think a lot of people forget about the humanity of people whose only option is to seek asylum in another country. The refugee becomes a number and an ‘issue’, and what has happened to asylum seekers can only happen to ‘others’.

But one of the strongest impulses we all share, is the will to survive. To keep yourself and your loved ones safe. So imagine the desperation one must feel to have to make the decision to leave everything they have ever known and escape across the oceans.

And while the seas can be treacherous, for some it is a dangerous path that must be undertaken in the hopes of delivering them ultimately to safety and freedom.

Opens Thursday 25 August
Margaret Ambridge returns to Praxis Artspace with new work.
Read about it in Art Edit + Interior Design]

Posted • Art Edit + Interior Design] We bring you our artist of the week Adelaide-based artist Margaret Ambridge .

“I am moved by the intensely personal aspects of life...the subjects and experiences often avoided or ignored."

Art has the power to provide a pathway or opportunity for people to have difficult but much needed conversations.” By refusing to shy away from the parts of life – and death – that are often endured in silence, the works of Ambridge constitute deeply powerful and acutely moving contemplations of humanity.

Ambridge is currently working on an upcoming exhibition titled Becoming Invisible?, on show at Adelaide gallery praxis ARTSPACE ρraxis ARTSPACE Gallery] this month, which epitomises her practice. Utilising intimate conversations with a range of women about their personal experiences navigating aging, youth, and mortality, her work aims to confront her audience with the stark realities women face as they age in a society that often objectifies them.

See comments for artwork details.
