Talent Madungwe is a Zimbabwean religious leader who founded Exile Desire of All Nations Ministries. He has claimed to have visited heaven and had meetings with God.

Talent Madungwe was born in Shurugwi where he grew up in a family of 10 where he is the firstborn. Madungwe attended Kanwa Primary School. Madungwe indicated that he grew up attending the African Apostolic Church where started preaching when he was young.

He founded Exile Desire of All Nations Ministries in Sunningdale, Harare in 2013. Prior to him starting his own church, Madungwe indicated that God had appeared to him in 2012 after he had stopped going to church for 2 years.

“God first visited me in a dream and then a vision. Since then I have regularly had angelic visitations. “These visits led to my finding of my ministry and calling as I was anointed as a prophet during the first visits. “I also got the church’s name from these visits.”

Ever since opening his own church Madungwe has indicated that he has visited heaven on numerous accounts and had met God. He also indicated that his spiritual father is Daniel from the old testament biblical book. Madungwe was reported to have said he is to finish off where Daniel left and that he is the chosen one. Madungwe indicated that people do not understand him nor believe what he does.

Funuel Nyasha Tazvida, best known as SYSTEM TAZVIDA, was a Zimbabwean musician born on 2 May 1968 in Zaka Masvingo (Fort Victoria ) during the Rhodesia era of modern day Zimbabwe, who was very popular in his home country mainly in the 1990s, though not as well known internationally. System Tazvidas music was sung more in a satirical manner but was very pregnant with meaning; by his lyrics he acted as a social commentator on various issues that affect people in their day to day living. Tazvida wrote and performed songs mainly in his native Shona language.

The song which put him in the limelight was Mabhauwa, which he sang together with the band Khiama Boys; System Tazvida was on vocals. This song used to be played in nightclubs of Zimbabwe and all kinds of places such as pubs.

Tazvida was best known for his hits Anodyiwa Haataure and Mushandi Ndimambo. However, it was his 1993 hit Rudo Tsika Nemagariro which propelled him to national stardom.

Tazvida had played with various bands including the Khiama Boys, the Mabhauwa Express and the Sungura Boys before he formed the Chazezesa Challengers. The Challengers included his brothers Peter Tazvida on bass and Isaac Tazvida on backing vocals, Lucky Mumiriki on rhythm (a former member of Nyami Nyami Sounds, Hurungwe Sounds and the Sungura Boys), Roggers Fatiya (a former member of Titus Zihute) on drums and his young brother Last Fatiya, who also played with Titus Zihute, was on lead guitar. Guitarist LeeRoy Lunga, who had played with the Super Sounds and the Kasongo Band, joined the Chazezesa Challengers in 1997 after the hit Anodyiwa Haataure. In 1997 Roggers Fatiya, Last Fatiya and young Tazvida, Isaac Tazvida left the group; then Roy Lunga became the lead guitarist and backing vocalist.

The band blended elements of sungura, jazz, South African mbaqanga and traditional music. They recorded several successful albums in the mid-to-late 1990s, their first being Rudo Tsika Nemagariro, which sold more than 20,000 copies. Their album Mutunhu Unemago sold more than 30,000 copies. Popular songs included Anodyiwa Haature, Mabhauwa, and Vaforomani. The Chazezesa Challengers were also popular in Mozambique, and toured there.

The band experienced two deaths in quick succession, as drummer Wezhira Shoko and talismanic leader System Tazvida both died near the turn of the millennium. The group has continued without System and Wezhira. Since their deaths they have produced three albums, including the tribute record Panopfungaira Pane Moto in honour of their former leader. The band assumed a new name, Boyz dzeSmoko, in which "Smoko" is an acronym for "simple music of Kanindo origin", the name Tazvida gave to his style of music.System's successor and younger brother Peter died in 2002. The group continued under the leadership of Lee Roy Lunga and released their twelfth album, Smoko Pachena/Chabvondoka, in December 2002.

His influence has led to the remaking of some of his popular hits, with the notable popularity of Chindidawo, a remake of Babe Rakanaka, done by rising Zimbabwean artist and producer Casper Beatz

Zimbabwean-born singer-songwriter and vocal powerhouse Frya has sonically slotted her voice in many hit series as she makes her mark in the music industry.

Born Rutendo Maregere, Frya lived most of her life in her native land where she was raised, however, migrated to SA in 2016 to further her studies. After briefly working a job in finance, at the beginning of last year she decided to quit her job to pursue her music career. “So, when I took that leap of faith, that’s when the pandemic hit. So, I doubted my decision of quitting my nine-to-five job. But eventually, things shaped up for me,” the excited yet poise singer tells TimeOut.

While she kept her head down and focused on perfecting craft singing and writing-wise, Frya expresses how “super humbling” it was to have her five songs featured on season 2 of Netflix’s second African original hit series Blood & Water.

“Having my body of work being featured on a series such as Blood & Water is very humbling. On season 1, they asked me to do the theme song for the show and now in the second season they used half of the music on my album – it’s really cool that they did that but more than anything, it’s super humbling,” Frya says.

Although her voice first featured in the theme song of the drama series, Frya describes her initial reaction to hearing herself as “mind-blowing” and “surreal”. “What I did when I first heard myself in the theme song was that I went to my room and jumped up and down for close to 30 minutes until I tired myself. By me doing so, it helped contain my excitement and be able to come to terms with what was actually happening.”

With her wish to have her name known in the music industry, in 2019 life changed for the better for the Zimbabwean-born singer/songwriter when she was spotted by a producer who was keen to put her voice to good use.

“The way that the whole music journey started for me was when I started posting covers of songs on Instagram, and when I covered Adele’s One And Only, a producer from SABC 1 sent me a direct message expressing how wonderfully I sang. He then asked me whether I’d be open to sing on their new show called Side Dish. We met up for a meeting, he told me the idea for the show, I then wrote a song and recorded it, which ended up being the title track for the show,” Frya says. “I think that was the first thing that made me think that I can actually become a well-known singer.”
