UPND RELIGIOUS CHAIRPERSON CALLS ON CHRISTIANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO PRAY FOR THE HEAD OF STATE

With the current happenings in the country’s political arena barely a month after scores of Zambians gathered in various regions to recognise the National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation which falls on October 18 of every year, it is a clear indication that Republican President Hakainde Hichilema and the nation at large need continued prayer from the church – Religious Affairs and Chaplaincy Services – RACS chairperson William Njombo says.
Rev. Njombo says Zambia is in a place where some of its citizens cannot understand fully the causes of the economic challenges they are facing by word of mouth alone, hence the need for the church to unite and petition God for strength and wisdom on behalf of the head of state and the nation relentlessly.
“We have too many politically motivated occurrences nearly on a daily basis particularly, from the opposition political players who constantly accuse President HH of not only failing the Zambian people economically but also being a dictator in a democratic state. I therefore take this opportunity to call on the church to rise in unizone and pray for our Seventh head of state because the prayer of a righteous man avails much according to James 5:16.
“Nearly a month ago, Zambia was praying in recognition of the National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation but soon after, the opposition political players were blaming the current economic situation such as the rise in commodity prices such as mealie-meal and fuel irrespective of the major global factors including the Russia-Ukrainian and Israeli-Palestinian wars”, Rev. Njombo says.
And Dr. Njombo has urged the existing Religious Affairs Structures across the country to intensify prayers for the Republican President.
“We are living in critical times where some selfish individuals are persistently disseminating a wrong message to the general public suggesting that the new dawn government has failed to keep to its campaign promises before the 2021 tripartite elections. Therefore, we need to sharpen our prayer tools and swing into action right within our respective structures across the nation”, He says.
Dr. Njombo has further advised the opposition to be more patriotic and desist from frustrating and politicizing every effort by government to better the lives of Zambian people.
“In as much as you may not entirely agree with the manner the UPND administration may not be perfect in its governance style, it is imperative to give credit where it is due and not politicize and criticize literally everything as though there are no apparent achievements that have so far been scored to this effect”, Rev. Njombo says.

MNCRD DEMANDS FULL JUSTICE FOR IAN

It is almost two weeks since Ian Bwalya’s step mother Longwe Ngosa, who allegedly assaulted him multiple times was granted bail by the Lusaka Magistrate Court after spending over a month in detention on charge of assault on a child, but it is important that justice takes its full course in this matter for the safety of the four year old – Media Network on Child’s Rights and Development MNCRD says.

MNCRD says the life of Ian may not only be in danger after the release of his step mother on bail by the magistrate court but also represents a number of unreported cases that may be happening within the country hence the need for the legal fraternity and Child Activists to follow up with this matter with keen interest.

In an interview, MNCRD Executive Director Hennry Kabwe says it is worrisome to note that Ian’s father Justin Bwalya recently decided to side with the wife over the matter to an extent of threatening a law suit against the teacher who exposed the alleged abuse.

“There is need for the law to take its full course in Ian’s abuse case. Now that the mother has been released on bail, this matter must be followed up by the court, Media and various Child Activists to ensure full protection of the child. We expected a different reaction from the boy’s father dishearteningly, he chose to protect the wife and insisted that it was other circumstances that led to the wounds on the lad’s body”, Mr. Kabwe says.

Mr. Kabwe says there is dire need for both Civil Society and the media to continue raising awareness and hold Ian’s parents accountable using the children’s code act as there may be more to this case than what has been reported.

“Our appeal is that as this case is being followed up there is needed to ensure that both parents to Ian are held accountable and a matter of this nature should be handled holistically using the Children’s Code act which has brought various pieces of legislation together and it is holistic in nature. We believe that there is more to this case than meets the eye and we should be able handle it as such and ensure that the child and other children that may be going through a similar situation are protected”, Mr. Kabwe says.

On September 13, 2023, the Lusaka Magistrate Court admitted Longwe Ngosa to a K3, 000 cash bail on conditions that she provides two working sureties who should be residents of Lusaka and the matter was adjourned to October 11.

RACS HAPPY WITH KALUMBILA- MWINILUNGA ROAD WORKS.
By Everisto Mulenga

The road that stretches between Kisasa in Kalumbila district and the Border Town- Jimbe in Northwestern Province has been a life hazard to motorists for decades now, ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) Religious Affairs and Chaplaincy Services –RACS- Chairperson, Rev. William Njombo says.

Rev. Njombo says Northwestern Province has huge potential of becoming Zambia’s new economic hub owing to the gigantic land mass and rich mineral deposits doted around the region.

Speaking in an interview with RACS Media and Communications Team, Dr. Njombo says as much as we can appreciate the current notable economic recovery efforts by the new dawn government, it is however important to give particular attention to Road Infrastructure development and maintenance as evidenced by ongoing works on Kalumbila’s Kisasa – Mwinilunga Road which was flagged off recently.

“The New Dawn administration has notably made significant economic headways within two years of governance. However, we cannot divorce development from good road networks. For this reason, RACS wishes to commend the government of the day for heavily considering working on major roads to bituminous standard. One of the roads that had been neglected by successive administrations since independence is the Mwinilunga Road, on which works are now underway. This road has massive potential to contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product –GDP”, Rev. Njombo says.

The clergyman adds that in the past it used to take more than five hours of travel between Solwezi and Mwinilunga because of the bad terrain stretching from Kisasa in Kalumbila District.

“It literally used to take five hours or more to cover a distance of 277 kilometers between the Provincial Capital to Mwinilunga district because of the terrible terrain immediately after Kisasa. The road was no less than a death trap because it became worse during the rainy season and it became a challenge for motorists to notice Water-Filled potholes”, Dr. Njombo says.

Dr. Njombo reiterates that due to perennial heavy rains that the Province normally experiences, swift upgrades of the 101-Kilometers Mwinilunga-Jimbe stretch will not only improve trade between Zambia and the Neighboring Angola, but also enhance tourist inflows, mining activities and reduced travel time between the border town of Jimbe and Mwinilunga, let alone Solwezi.

“Mwinilunga- Jimbe Road is the one the previous regime-PF once purported to have commissioned in February of 2016 and later abandoned the works immediately after the August election victory. However, once upgraded it will not only open up trade between Zambia and Angola but also improve local tourism. The road will further reduce travel time and transportation costs in favor of various traders especially pineapple farmers who have over the years struggled to sell their produce to far flung lucrative markets like Solwezi and the Copperbelt”, he says.

Meanwhile, UPND Northwestern Provincial youth Chairperson Bruce Kanema says the Zambia National Service -ZNS has been consistent with the road works from Kisasa towards Mwinilunga and the border town Jimbe.

“The Mwinilunga Road was slowly becoming impassable but ZNS are on top of things working on the road and so far works are progressing well. And I am confident that the men and women in uniform are equal to the task in ensuring a diligent and professional job is executed,” Mr. Kanema said.

Efforts to get a comment from Northwestern Province Minister Robert Lihefu concerning the matter proved futile as his phone went unanswered at press time.
