The National Food and Nutrition Commission and partners found it necessary to provide our communities with a guide on the key messages to focus on when promoting behaviour change around issues that affect nutrition through our own special means and platforms. These key messages can also be used by anyone trying to promote positive nutrition behaviours.
1. ADOLESCENT AND MATERNAL NUTRITION.
Human reproduction is a special but complex process that requires favourable states of health and nutrition. When a woman conceives in the presence of poor nutritional status it increases the likelihood that the mother's wellbeing, baby's growth and development, and the future of the child will be compromised. Young girls, adolescents and pregnant women need to eat a variety of foods to stay healthy and to have healthy babies.
* Pregnant Women should begin attending antenatal clinics as soon as they suspect they could be pregnant so that they receive the iron and folate supplements as well as other health services in time.
*Encourage pregnant women to take iron and folate tablets to prevent anaemia, birth defects and other complications.
*Advise families that adolescent girls and mothers should eat a variety of foods to obtain iron and other nutrients so that they can stay healthy and have healthy babies. Iron and folate rich rich foods include green leafy vegetables, unrefined cereal grains, foods that have iron and folate added to them ( fortified foods), milk, eggs and meat.
2. BREASTFEEDING (early initiation, exclusive breastfeeding and continued breast feeding)
The first, thick and yellowish milk that is released from the breasts (colostrum) provides the first immunization to protect the baby from infections. Early start of breastfeeding within an hour of giving birth ensures that the baby not only begins to bond with the mother but also receive this vital milk. It is well researched that breast milk alone is enough for the first 6 months of a child's life. any additional foods before the age of 6 months presents a number of complications that can risk the child's life or inhibit proper growth and development. After the age of 6 months the child is ready to receive other foods in addition to breast milk. This is because at this age the child is better able to digest other foods, and breast milk alone is no longer enough to provide all necessary nutrients; but it still contains substances needed for the child to continue growing well.
3. SAFE WATER, HYGIENE AND SANITATION
Water is essential for life and a critical component in nutrition. Usage drinking water and poor hygiene & sanitation can cause illness and compromise nutrient absorption. Water quality can be compromised by the presence of infectious agents, toxins and other harmful substances. Improvement in water and sanitation has significant effects on the health of the population by reducing diarrheal diseases.
4. GROWTH MONITORING AND PROMOTION
Growth monitoring and adequate nutrition counselling is very important in the detection of, prevention and management of under nutrition. Men are decision makers in most households; they need to understand their role in ensuring good nutrition for the entire household but especially for women and children.
5. VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENTATION
Vitamin A supplements promote growth and help protect children from infections and loss of sight. Children under the age of 5 years and especially those within the first 1000 most critical days need plenty of vitamin A. It may be difficult to eat enough foods that have sufficient vitamin A, but it is possible to obtain vitamin A in capsules from a health centre.

At the global level, experts have agreed on a package of effective nutrition interventions to reduce the levels of stunting. These interventions are called priority interventions also known as the "minimum package."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CDF PAVES WAY FOR KANAKANTAPA POLICE POST OPENING

Chongwe - Saturday 17th December, 2022

Kanakantapa Police Post has officially been commissioned and handed over to the Zambia Police Service in Chongwe District.

The Police Post has been finalized and furniture procured with facilitation from this year’s third quarter allocation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Chongwe Member of Parliament Hon. Sylvia T. Masebo was present to commission the facility on behalf of Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu in Kanakantapa Ward today.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Mwiimbu said Government under the leadership of H.E. President Hakainde Hichilema is fully cognizant of the long term effect that the community plays in economic growth, hence the need to redirect resources by investing in community projects of this manner.

Mr. Mwiimbu explained that this year, CDF allocated a total of K253,114 for the completion of the police post and that the commissioning of the facility is long overdue.

He emphasized that President Hakainde Hichilema’s government is committed to creating a decentralized system of governance that is responsive to local needs and preferences, therefore projects under the new dawn government should no longer delay.

He further said the police post has brought hope and a sense of security for the people due to the increase of criminal activities in the Kanakantapa community.

Meanwhile, Chongwe Mayor Christopher Habeenzu disclosed that works of the facility commenced in 2009 through efforts made by members of the Kanakantapa Resettlement Scheme.

Mr. Habeenzu said community members embarked on the project in their quest to address the many security concerns surrounding them.

He stated that the project was initially financed through contributions from farmers in the resettlement scheme and that in due course, a significant portion of funding was sourced from the constituency development fund.

MARGRET MWACHIYEYA-MULALIKA ROAD GRADING WORKS UNDERWAY

Chongwe Municipal Council has started grading the Margret Mwachiyeya-Mulalika road with the view of easing the movement of people and goods.

Area Councillor Vincent Mwachiyeya says these works which started 4 days ago, will cost the council K100, 000.

Mr Mwachiyeya says the road will be graded from Lukoshi turnoff to Ndapula turnoff.

The Area Councillor tells Chongwe Community Radio news that the grading of this road will ease the movement of farming inputs and produce by local farmers.

Mr Mwachiyeya also assured his residents that he will try his level best to have the road tarred.

Wezi Mhone Writes! 👇👇👇

This Is So Deep
THAT’S THE IMAGE THAT IS GETTING ME INSULTED
Listen guys, I’ve read some of the meanest comments I’ve ever seen directed to me. Some of it is the usual disrespect “she’s just dirty” because whoever is typing those things is sure that it’s only being dirty that causes someone to have the current skin issues I have… I would like to come out here and act tough, for the ones who consider me a strong role model but the truth is I’ve cried, I am hurt.

“Don’t take them seriously”, some have advised me but you don’t get it. The world is digital. This is my work space too… You are making my life really hard by being so cruel. It shouldn’t be normal as expected for people to just be mean online. Seems like those with fair smooth skin are the ones allowed to flourish and be themselves and rest of us must hide in fear of being dragged & insulted.

I’ve been depressed, this entire year… I’ve been struggling with so many things. Anyone who knows me knows that I’ve been living in pain but only close friends and relatives are preview to this. When last did I drop new songs? I haven’t been well enough to be myself and share new music because I am still recovering from a lot.

To them that are hearing this for the first time, stress does cause outbreaks! It affects your skin. You can bath, use the best of the best lotions and have the greatest skin scare routine ever invented but when you are broken inside, all that stuff affects your outward appearance one way or the other. Some people it manifests differently, they gain or lose weight amongst other things.

If it comes to my skin complexion, that’s the favorite topic for the bullies over the years. Sadly I’m even used. “Go to this person and get some products to brighten your skin” some are even free enough to type recommendations of what they use for their fair skins, “use so and so products, you’ll thank me later”…
