BOKO SWORN IN AS BOTSWANA'S SIXTH PRESIDENT

President Advocate Duma Boko was officially sworn in by Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane as the sixth President of Botswana at the High Court today.

When addressing a packed BTV auditorium after the swearing in, President Adv. Boko highlighted the importance of taking oath without delay, stating that any postponement would leave the country without a leader.

He expressed his commitment to following Section 37 of the Constitution of Botswana , which states, 'A person assuming the office of President shall, before entering upon the duties of that office, take and subscribe such oaths as may be prescribed .

Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane has declared Advocate Duma Boko the sixth president elect of the Republic of Botswana.

Adv. Boko who is Umbrella for Democratic Change leader takes over from Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana Democratic Party.

So far UDC has won the mandatory 31 out of 61 parliamentary seats.

GABORONE : In a remarkable display of democratic maturity, Botswana's ruling party, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), has conceded defeat to the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) for the first time since the country's independence. Outgoing President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabeswe Masisi addressed the nation in a press conference at Hotel 4:30 in Gaborone, graciously accepting the election results.

President Masisi emphasized the importance of respecting the voice of the voter and acknowledged his party's shortcomings. "We admit it is a clear communication that we did something wrong as a party," he stated. The BDP has pledged to conduct a thorough analysis of their mistakes, demonstrating a commitment to self-reflection and growth.

International observers have praised the election process, describing it as transparent and appealing to all stakeholders. This endorsement reinforces Botswana's reputation for peaceful transitions and democratic stability.

His dedication brought Botswana recognition on the global stage, notably guiding his Red Dragon Martial Arts team to success at the Africa Youth Kung-Fu Championships in South Africa, despite facing overwhelming financial constraints. Yet, recent events have sparked controversy. Chilito allegedly exaggerated certain aspects of his fundraising efforts, which has led to mixed reactions from the public. While lying is never justifiable, it's important to acknowledge the circumstances that drove him to this point. Chilito’s work, though often overlooked, is impactful. His relentless pursuit of excellence in a sport that receives minimal national support, as evidenced by his team’s participation in the 2024 Shaolin Games despite having no funding, speaks volumes about his passion and commitment. As a society, we must recognize that individuals like Chilito resort to extreme measures because of the systemic lack of support. The Kung Fu Federation in Botswana is not even recognized by the Botswana National Sports Commission, making it nearly impossible to secure funding. Chilito’s plea for help may have come in the form of exaggeration, but it is a reflection of a world where honest cries for assistance often go unheard. Now more than ever, we must unite and
