Since the creation of Momentum Production we have continuously tried to change the way productions are made throughout the world, with a key emphasis on the African continent, where we have done most of our work in the past 10 years.

In order to do so we have tried to considerably reduce our carbon footprint by very rarely flying on the ground and rather rely on our network of talented filmmakers and photographers locally.

Once in a while, we do travel far in order to shoot a story. And when we do this we try to make sure we also have an impact on the ground.

Last month in Rwanda, we partnered with our good friend , and the where we held a one day workshop with several amazing young photographers and filmmakers.

Together we started to shoot a short documentary about Jack and the center he has created several years ago.

Despite a significant need for uninterrupted care, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases don’t receive enough attention in humanitarian settings, even though nearly three out of four deaths globally are caused by NCDs. A significant percentage of internally displaced people (IDPs) continue to be exposed to NCD risks such as unhealthy diets and physical inactivity. Women are disproportionately affected by emergencies.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣.
We partnered with BBC StoryWorks, and to execute a few episodes of their series . This series highlights the impactful and innovative work being carried out across the global health and development network to prevent and control NCDs.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

The production of Cashew nuts is the main source of income for close to 1.5 million rural producers in Mozambique. Being one of the few reliable cash crops that farmers can grow, it is the economic backbone of thousand of communities throughout the country.⁣
⁣.
Since the civil war that ended in 1992 and cyclone Naida destroying 40% of the plantation areas in 1994, very few trees have been planted and the yearly yields of cashews became well below their potential.⁣⁣
A revitalisation of the production is now in progress and french NGO Nitidae is playing an important role in Gilé Province, in Northern Mozambique.⁣
⁣.
Together with Incaju, they provide support, assistance and training to more than 5000 stakeholders. Their aim is to strengthen the cashew value chain to increase smallholder income while also preserving natural ressources.⁣
.⁣
We spent a week in the area, documenting the work they are doing on the ground for the French Development Agency ⁣

In Mozambique there are more than 1 million Cashew producers and in the northern part of the country, this activity accounts for a third of their annual income.
Most are small scale producers who live below the poverty line and use farming practices that contribute to deforestation.
Through the ACAMOZ project, AFD - Agence Française de Développement, Incaju and Nitidae are supporting the training and organization of producers in groups in order to strengthen the sector and increase producers’ incomes.
Through the trainings, producers improve the commercialization of their goods while conserving natural ressources by adopting sustainable farming practices.

It’s always excited to contribute to as often as we do. This is where we share some of our most interesting adventures in Africa!

Rooibos, The Red Gold:
About 3 hours driving from Cape Town, you can reach the border of the Bokkeveld, on the north part of the Cederberg. This region is famous for a special bush, from which you can make a specific tea: the red tea or the so called Rooibos.
Our Co-founder spent a week with the community that grows and lives from this bush. is extremely precious for everyone there as it allowed them to become independent and survived in the middle of this arid environment.

Teachers and other school personnels are on the fore-front of prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted disease. Their role is key to inform students about how to prevent infections, know their status and get access to treatment.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A survey conducted in the Eshowe/Mbongolwane areas of KwaZulu-Natal in 2013 found that one in four adults aged 15 – 29 is HIV positive, with an even higher infection among women aged 15 – 39.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In Eshowe and other rural areas of KZN, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) partnered with schools to raise awareness about the importance of dialogue and information about STDs in 2018.

One of the richest counties in natural resources, the Democratic Republic of Congo is a force to be reckoned with. The country is called and known by different name variations.
If you call it Zaire, DR Congo, DRC, DROC, Congo-Kinshasa, East Congo or simply the Congo, you are still calling it correctly.
Thanks to and the two great souls, Marie-Aude and Olivier Delafoy, that trust me and gave me the opportunity to cover those amazing stories and be part of their own journey, in DRC. I can easily said that it was one of the most intense and unforgettable experience. A touch of madness…that I deeply miss!

As Anthony Bourdain said in 2013: "The Congo was the most difficult shoot of my life but was also maybe the greatest adventure of my life. ». This is the way I feel anytime I come back from this unique land.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) always sounds like a myth to me. A place where there is still so much to discover. This country is 4 times bigger than France and abound in culture and ressources. I had the opportunity to travel around the Lualaba province, covering Governor Muyej’s political journey, documenting several celebration of the Bayeke dynasty of Garengaze -like the commemoration of the death of King M’siri I- , discovering the whole mine region of Kolwezi…It was a year ago and those sensations, the smell of soil, the craze of the crowd…it still all alive inside me.

- Africa Celebration : Zimbabwe, The Lost Era- Ode 7/8
With , we attended Mnagagwa’s sworn in November 2017 in Harare, documenting this awaited change for Zimbabwe’s democracy. for more than 16 millions Zimbabweans, it was the beginning of new era.
Nicknamed “The Crocodile”, Mnangagwa was appointed after Mugabe was forced out by the military in November last year. Emmerson Mnangagwa has been sworn in as only the second president of Zimbabwe since the country gained independence in 1980, taking the oath of office in front of 70,000 people in Harare’s main sports stadium this morning.
Unfortunately things did not go the way Zimbabweans wanted, even if they knew that this promises was tainted with mistrust. For many of them, they was no new era.

Namibia-

Perfectly formed sand dunes press up against a deserted stretch of coast, and inland for as far as the eye can see. Sand consumes shipwreck skeletons more than a kilometre from the ocean. Wildlife thrives in a land almost completely devoid of water. Not only is the Namib Desert one of the world’s most beautiful deserts, it’s also a place of mystery which conceals its secrets well. Nd only a very few know the secrets of the desert.

Africa Celebration : Namibia, Unspoiled freedom - Ode 5/8
Namibia. You can’t relate it to another country! It’s a country of compelling beauty, abundant sunshine, and a feeling of confined space. With its unspoiled landscapes and large variety of game, Namibia is one of the larger countries in Africa and draws an increasing number of visitors from various part so the globe.
Before going there, one has some ideas/image of what it could be. But being there, in the middle of the Namib desert, is an experience by itself. A sense of freedom is generated by the wide horizons, the clear unpolluted skies and a population density which is among the lowest in the world. This feeling of tranquility and stillness combines with a landscape which is singular in its colours, full of contrasts of light and shade. In addition, the diversity of its people creates a rich blend of cultures and traditions.
Namibia is the first country in the world to include protection of the environment and sustainable utilization of wildlife in its constitution. About 15.5% of the country has been set aside as national parks. In these areas, rare and endangered species of animals, birds and plant life are preserved and protected. They serve as a living reminder to us all, and to the generations of the future, of how it once was in Africa.

Macedonia

About two-thirds of the buildings in Skopje were built in the 50s and 80s and were state built, owned and maintained. This dramatically changed in the 1991 when most of the tenants got to privatise the buildings. This led to a new issue; how to maintain these buildings.
With the end of state-funded maintenance and management for properties in modern-day North Macedonia, many homeowners are faced with high costs for living. However, Habitat for Humanity has been working with the tenants and homeowners to refurbish the existing buildings with a view to improve the buildings as well as the lives of the people that live there.
We went to Skopje, North Macedonia with BBC StoryWorks and Habitat for Humanity to tell their story. More to come soon!

Tanzania

In sub-Saharan Africa, diabetes is a growing burden, yet little is known about its prevalence, risk factors, and complications.
We took a visit to Tanzania with BBC StoryWorks who is producing a series of films for the NCD Alliance, a global thought leader on policy and practise when it comes to tackling non-communicable diseases.
Here we follow the amazing story of Faidha. Faidha is living with type 2 diabetes in Tanzania. Faidha’s story is not unique; diabetes and other NCDs are on the rise in Tanzania and around the world.

ELECTRIC CITY! . .

The Danube Tower in the French city of Strasbourg is the world’s first *energy-positive residential building. Its quite a sight to behold, coming in at 16 storeys tall, with 63 apartments, the Danube tower was completed in 2018. Elithis, the project managers responsible for this marvel. They took a concept they created in a 2009 Office building and enhanced and invigorated the original concept model and as you’ll see below, the results speak for themselves.

The building speaks directly to the affordable housing issue, which is one of the most urgent issues that Europe faces today. Access to affordable and quality housing has been clearly linked to one's physical and mental well being.

Social housing has long been stigmatised and OFTEN misunderstood – this series will aim to redress those prejudices and help audiences understand the concept of affordable housing in a new light. Through the eyes of the residents and individuals at the heart of the story, we want to explore the solutions being pioneered.

We had the honour of being the content creation partners for BBC StoryWorks / Community series, and saw first hand how our partners Catella Project Management
and Groupe Elithis are pioneers in tackling the issue firsthand. What an enlightening experience, and we are proud to have played a small part in some positive change to affordable housing.

STAY TUNED! More to come shortly!

We were invited to attend the Mwami Throne Festival Mwenda Bantu Kaneranera Godefroid Munongo, next to Likasi, Lualaba province. Mwenda Bantu, commonly named M’Siri, was the founder of the Yeke Empire in Katanga.
They are called the Bayeke. The kingdom controlled a huge central-African trading network, mostly dealing in slaves but also in ivory, salt, copper and iron ore. Traders came to Bunkeya from the Zambezi and Congo basins, from Angola, Uganda and Zanzibar. The Arabs from the east coast bought guns and ammunition, which Msiri used to maintain his position.
We witnessed the 7th successor of the throne celebrate his 13th year as King, or “Mwami” in the local language. His name is Mwenda Bantu Kaneranera Godefroid Munongo Junior.

In August 2017, Jacob Zuma faced a vote of no-confidence for the eighth time since his election in 2009.
The people came to the street peacefully in front of the South African parliament as the MPs voted in a secret ballot.
Roland street was blocked off, and marked a clear divide. With on one side the pro Zuma ANC supporters, and on the other a coalition of opposition parties members, heavily represented by the EFF.
