I have enjoyed creative writing since I was a little girl. However, I was a weak speller and not very good at grammar. In the sixth grade, my teacher had me read my assignment out loud to my class and stopped me at every error so they could learn from my mistakes. I remember being interrupted constantly and feeling shame. Shame is something we all feel when we make mistakes, but why do we assign shame to something inevitable that makes us all human? WE SHOULDN’T! This is my message. I hope you can relate to it when reading this book.

To all the weak spellers out there, you can only get better! Don’t let anything discourage you from writing if it’s what you love to do.

This morning I tested my water colour paints , to make my colour selection for the illustrations of the next book in the “Lessons from Animals” children’s book series. I love painting in water colour because it’s so adaptable! One colour can give endless variations of saturation and vibrancy depending on how much water you add. They are so great to have at the moment , when my supplies are limited but my imagination is limitless !

The Paper Hug is taking its brand of uplifting messages and illustrations into the world of children’s books, with the online publication of our first book WALK LIKE AN ELEPHANT, which is written by Leila Mushahwar, with illustrations by co-founder of The Paper Hug Nada Kawar, and design and layout by Heba Mushahwar. This is the first title in the LESSONS FROM ANIMALS series . The creators think it’s important to collaborate now more than ever to produce easily accessible books with positive messages for children and families who are practicing social distancing.
