Morgan County, Tennessee
Morgan County is a rich in heritage, history, and beauty. Formed in 1817, and named after a Revolutionary War officer (Daniel Morgan), Morgan County is located in Eastern Tennessee among the Cumberland Mountains. Located in close proximity to both Interstate 40 and Interstate 75, Morgan County is an easily accessible location for family fun. When thinking of this area, we are most commonly associated with the beautiful Frozen Head State Park and Natural Area. However, there are dozens of other tourist and destination stops ranging from rock climbing, fishing, and kayaking the Obed Wild and Scenic River, taking a step back in time to Historic Rugby or our soon to open Historic Brushy Mountain Distillery, to horseback and mountain biking along the peak of Lone Mountain State Forest. If you love to hike, Wartburg, our county seat, is also the only city that the more than 300 mile Cumberland Trail passes through. You may even be interested in having your choice of ATV trail riding in our many miles of backwoods trails through our neighboring Windrock and Brimstone outdoor recreation parks, or even a dirt track race on our Wartburg Speedway! Did you know that Morgan County is also home to the Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival and The Barkley Marathons? We are pleased to welcome you to visit soon!
