Families, WCHS is offering a Student Athletics Pass to help combat the high prices at the gate. A one time fee of $25 will get the high school student into every home regular season game at WCHS. This $25 only needs to be spent once and can be used for all games. A $5 fee will be asked for replacement passes. We hope this Student Athletics Pass will help students stay involved at WCHS. Students must scan the QR code and answer the questionnaire. These signs have been posted all around the hallways at WCHS.

RESPECT THOSE TRADESMEN!

A recent Facebook post by Josh Dewayne Moore caused me to spend much time in thought. I first met Josh when I photographed him playing football at Wartburg Central High School. Josh was an excellent athlete and achieved All-State recognition in 2018. I was always impressed by Josh’s work ethic in practice and on the field.

After graduation, Josh made the career decision to become a lineman rather than to attend college. Josh is currently working in Houston, Texas for Dark Horse Electric restoring power to millions of people who have been suffering for days since struck by hurricane Beryl.

Many other young people from Morgan and surrounding counties have also made similar career decisions and chosen to pursue a trade rather than college. I know some who have become welders, electricians, auto body technicians, and various other tradesmen.

At a time when society seems to think that everyone should go to college, I applaud the decision of these young people to pursue a trade. While many college graduates struggle to find meaningful work, these young tradesmen are building solid careers and families. As the people of Houston would currently testify about Josh and his fellow linemen, be thankful that tradesmen are there when you need them!

Chevrolet used to claim that their vehicles are the heartbeat of America. I have owned only one Chevrolet in my lifetime, and I can honestly say that vehicle was junk. On the other hand, I would argue that these young people who have chosen to pursue a trade working with both their hands and their brains are the real heartbeat of America. We owe them our utmost respect.
