What’s new and/or coming up on Gilgongo Records, with plenty more to be added for mid 2023 on the next one of these things. Still hanging in here, mostly just waiting for release to come back from the plant and looking forward to some manufacturing changes that will hopefully not keep things stuck in place like this for such a long time! Etc!

Vital Weekly on the new BLORP ESETTE GAZETTE Vol 3 & 4 2CD on Gilgongo Records! *excerpt: “Now Gilgongo Records picks it up again, with 'Volume 3 & 4', a double CD with music that partly deals with the old LAFMS posse but also contains new names. You'll find here a piece recorded from 1972 by Ace & Duce, but also more recent. Most tracks don't have a recording date, judging these to be from a more recent date. The music is in various places, but generally, a free aspect runs through these pieces. Dr. Amazon, in which we find Dr. Id, from Sm**ma fame, doing a very loose rendition of 'White Rabbit', there is guitar noise by Donkey Flybye, James Dewey, and Eric Zann, Ace Farren Ford (who compiled this thing with Ju Suk R**t Meate), doing a contact microphone improv with GX Jupitter-Larsen, spoken word by Lynn Carey and Erica Rawlings, tape-loop experiments by Lee Rockey or radical free rock music by Control Unit, tape-recorder madness of Sissy Spacek and a weird singer-songwriter named Mr. Foon with a track from his 1977, as yet unreleased, LP. Folk is taking the p**s out by Electric Bill Robinson, and Threed might do the same with improvised music. This compilation reads like a gazette, a fine mix of news, oldies, and weird stories, and there are lots to explore. Absolutely great compilation. (FdW)”

PAUL ARAMBULA / European shows Sept and Oct 2022. There are few people as consistently tied in with the Gilgongo family tree as Berlin’s (for now) Paul Arambula. Be it 10+ years ago in Vegetable, a frequent member of Soft Shoulder (both when near and far), or most recently on his own, Paul always has something in the recent rear view or on the horizon that is some way connected with the label. An incredible person and charismatic performer, never to be missed! Check it out!

Few people are as dedicated to creation and collaboration in the public square as much as Sandy Ewen. She performs (what seems like) 500 times per year, and she just got a fresh box of her incredible LP on Gilgongo - so next time you see her, make sure you leave with a copy unless you already have (at least) one at home! We also have copies in stock of her recent (incredible) CD with Roscoe Mitchell, Damon Smith and Weasel Walter (self released by Sandy)! Find both from us via Discogs or feel free to send a DM! *original description* SANDY EWEN "You Win" LP (GGGR-099)
While it’s relatively easy to refer to Sandy Ewen’s use of guitar as unconventional or abstract, the true nature of her work is much more exploratory in nature. Without relying on the use of effects or looping, the instrument itself functions as a canvas for Ewen’s ever-evolving arsenal of objects and ever-expanding techniques. Ewen has collaborated and performed with everyone from Henry Kaiser to Roscoe Mitchell, from Jaap Blonk to Lydia Lunch, from Keith Rowe to Tamio Shiraishi, from Damon Smith to Id M Theft Able, from To Carter to Weasel Walter, the list feels endless. Ewen’s drive to create and perform is rivaled by few, and a healthy body of releases documents much of her work in both solo and group settings. However, “You Win”, represents her first solo appearance on the full length, vinyl format. 📸: Peter Gannushkin

Thurs 7/28 @ in Los Angeles - a LAFMS evening w/ Extended Organ & No Hope. If back to events & in Southern California, it would be a 100% no-brainer! Black Editions Presents a night with the LAFMS featuring **Extended Organ** & **No Hope**

Formed in 1994, **Extended Organ** produces a dynamic otherworldly ambience which can be simultaneously hilarious and frightening. **Joe Potts** lays down a carpet of sound using and his self-engineered drone instrument, the “Chopped Optigan,” over which **Paul McCarthy** performs vocal and guitar improvisations channeled and processed by **Alex Stevens**. Alex also adds his own keyboard triggered synthesized sounds. **Tom Recchion**, renowned as an inventor of homemade instruments, a free improviser, and an accomplished composer of acoustic, electronic and tape music, performs an array of sounds folding lush beauty and horror sensibility into the matrix. **Fredrik Nilsen** plays an antique Rheem Mark 7 organ along with electronic sound and recordings created by **Mike Kelley**. Kelley was a member of the group from 2000 until his death in 2012 and continues to be a contributing member by virtue of sound recordings he provided before his death; “In case I can’t make a gig, I can still play.” They will be joined by interdisciplinary artist **Elaine Carey** who will be playing the musical singing saw.

The LAFMS formed in the early 1970s around a loosely knit group of like-minded musical improvising sound experimenters in eastern Los Angeles who discovered their mutual interest and banded together to design modes of self production and distribution of recordings and publications, helping to develop and propel the DIY movement. In the ensuing 45 years the LAFMS has gone on to create dozens of records and groups (including Doo-Dooettes, AIRWAY, Le Forte Four, Sm**ma, John Duncan and Extended Organ), hundreds of concerts, festivals in both US and Europe, a full-scale gallery retrospective and volumes of artwork, sculptures, homemade instruments, videos, recordings, and other ephemera.

**No Hope** is a large LAFMS ensemble featuring:
Paul McCarthy
Rick Potts
Ace Farren Ford
Keith Lubow
Alex Stevens
Trevor Rounesville

If you’ve ever been to Gilgongo HQ, you’ve likely seen some of Ace Farren Ford’s art in rotation on the walls. As a member of Sm**ma and in the inner orbit of the Los Angeles Free Music Society, he has also popped up on several Gilgongo releases: old, recent and upcoming. If you’re in the area, he’s got a show up with Malik Pope at Secretland Gallery - tomorrow Sunday June 5th 3p-6p… and if you’re not in the area, get in touch and pick up some of his work!!

Soft Shoulder ‘Left Over, Table Top’ available now (find it on Discogs / Bandcamp)! A short and small release, 5” stereo lathe. Not a highly appreciated format (understandable!) - if it’s not your thing, please note: it’s the first of several limited releases that will make up a yet-to-be-titled LP which will follow late 2022’s ‘Smile Building’s Exit’ and ‘It’s All A Small World After’!
