Rattler Review extends congratulations and well wishes for Devin Rispress. The former Director of Football Recruiting will serve in this same role at Colorado under coach Deion Sanders. Rispress was a guest on the podcast in 2023 where he discussed his work bringing elite players through the transfer portal and high school athletes to FAMU.
It’s been a rough start to 2024 at . However, here are some reasons to smile. Spring sports will officially start practice at the end of the month. This means the quest for baseball and women’s tennis to repeat as champions will be underway.

associate head coach/cornerbacks coach James Colzie III has been promoted to interim head coach.
Colzie joined the FAMU coaching staff in 2022. He previously served as the HC at Saint Mary’s University (Canada) from 2016-21. His overall record was 23-19. Saint Mary’s played for two AUS Championships (2018, and 2019) and posted a conference best 7-1 record during the 2018 season.
His college football playing days were at Florida State from 1993-97. He won a national championship in 1993.
FAMU will conduct a national search and interview candidates. This includes Colzie.
Willie Simmons is one of a handful of coaches - at any level of football in America - whose legacy and cultural impact on the field, is equally matched by his work off the field. He leaves WAY BETTER than when he arrived. Stay tuned for our 1-on-1 conversation on his new move on special podcast episode of Rattler Review.
Willie Simmons holds the record for the most appearances on Rattler Review podcast. The running joke we shared was that we lost count of the official number. We estimate between 95-100 since the show’s debut in August 2018.
Through all our conversations - on and off the record - we rarely posed for pictures together. I went digging in the crates and found these from 2018. I came to Tallahassee in June 2018. Just weeks into knowing one another, he invited my wife and I to his hometown of Quincy to attend his church. The second photo was at The Moon in September 2018 celebrating the 1978 national championship team.
Simmons was a great source of information. We are also friends. We’ve talked about life, marriage, music, politics, history and so much more. Cheers to “Shotgun” on his new endeavor as the RB coach at Duke. Stay tuned for our next conversation on his decision to leave and his legacy with the program on a special episode of Rattler Review.

• 2023 record: 18-14, 12-4 (SWAC).
• Finalist in the SWAC Volleyball Tournament vying for a third consecutive championship.
• Four All-SWAC, two All-Tournament selections.
• SWAC Libero of the Year (Brooke Hudson).
• Defeated previously undefeated South Alabama (3-2) on Sept. 7. The Jaguars later earned an at-large bid in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament.
