This week, as in today, at 4 p.m. on KSVY Sonoma we will have Ed Johnson, member of Novo tempo who will be playing this Sunday in the plaza as part of the Music InPlace 501c3 concert series. Thus in at 4 p.m. on the FM or hit the pod or video casts later.

As a vocalist, Ed Johnson is frequently compared to Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento, Kenny Rankin, and Michael Franks. As a guitarist and bandleader, critics often cite the lushly exotic, accessible sounds of Airto and Flora Purim. Ed has seven recording projects to his credit, in addition to producer’s credits for other singer/songwriters.
Ed tours regularly with his band NOVO TEMPO, which includes: Canadian pianist/singer JENNIFER SCOTT (Tommy Banks, Don Thompson, Kenny Wheeler, Skywalk, Hugh Fraser), sax and flute maestra KRISTEN STROM (Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole, Roberta Flack, Johnny Mathis), trumpet/flugelhorn master JOHN WORLEY (Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, Don Byron, Wayne Shorter), guitar/mandolin wizard SCOTT SORKIN (The Count Basie Orchestra, Mary Wilson, Nneenna Feelon, Paula West), Canadian bass star RENE WORST (Chet Baker,Gene Bertoncini, Joe Pass), drummers MARK IVESTER (Larry Coryell, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Byrd, Eartha Kitt), and JASON LEWIS (Boz Scaggs, Michael Brook, Djivan Gasparyan), and percussionists MICHAELLE GOERLITZ (Mark Levine, Wayne Wallace, Houston Pearson) and JEFF BUSCH (Carlos Cascante, Jovino Santos Neto, Patrinell Wright).
With this ensemble, Ed has released three critically acclaimed Brazilian jazz albums to date, including his latest album, For Every Living Thing, out now on Cumulus Records. He is a co-founder of the California Coast Music Camp and perennial faculty member there, and also on the teaching staff annually at the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop. He also records and performs with the Americana/folk ensemble Cabin Fever Northwest, and has produced their last three albums.
