In a thrilling matchup at O’Gorman, the Lincoln Patriots pulled off an impressive 36-19 win over the Knights. The game began with both teams locked in a defensive struggle, tied 0-0 after the first quarter, with each team trading turnovers. However, momentum shifted dramatically in the second quarter.

O'Gorman struck first after a quarterback change, with Sullivan Schlimgen breaking the deadlock on a touchdown run. The Knights took an early 7-0 lead, but Lincoln's Brody Schaefer quickly responded with an explosive 56-yard touchdown run, evening the score at 7-7. Lincoln then took control with a bit of trickery, scoring on a 49-yard flea flicker from Michael Roche to Louison Akossi. Despite botching the extra point, the Patriots made up for it with a two-point conversion, taking a 15-7 lead into halftime.

Lincoln continued their offensive dominance in the second half. Schaefer connected with Akossi for a 22-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 22-7 early in the third quarter. O’Gorman refused to back down, answering with a 63-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Sayasavanh to Schlimgen, closing the gap to 22-13. However, their two-point conversion attempt fell short.

Lincoln quickly responded with another Schaefer-to-Akossi connection, this time a 37-yard touchdown, making it 29-13 at the end of the third quarter. Though Schlimgen found the end zone again for O'Gorman, a 55-yard touchdown pass from Schaefer to Akossi sealed the deal for Lincoln, who cruised to a 36-19 victory, ending the game in victory formation.

Lincoln's combination of big plays and solid ex*****on proved too much for the Knights, who couldn’t match the Patriots' firepower despite a strong effort.

Freshman Knights Slide Past Patriots in Defensive Slugfest

In a closely contested freshman football season opener, the O’Gorman Knights edged out the Lincoln Patriots with a 13-6 victory in a game dominated by defense. Both teams displayed strong defensive performances, but the Knights managed to capitalize on key plays to secure the win.

The game remained scoreless for much of the first half as both defenses held firm, making it difficult for either team to gain significant yardage. Late in the second quarter, however, O’Gorman broke the deadlock with a spectacular 72-yard touchdown run by Remy Jones. The long run energized the Knights and, following a successful extra point, gave them a 7-0 lead.

The Knights nearly extended their lead just before halftime. Quarterback Talec Schlimgen connected with Braylon Treasure on a deep pass, but the play was called back due to an illegal touching penalty, as Treasure was ruled to have stepped out of bounds before making the catch. This kept the score at 7-0 as the teams headed into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Lincoln struggled to move the ball and was forced to punt from deep within their own territory. Ethan Olson’s punt was fielded by Braylon Treasure, who weaved his way through several defenders to return the punt 40 yards for an O’Gorman touchdown, extending the Knights' lead to 13-0.

Despite the two-score deficit, the Patriots remained resilient. With just over a minute left in the game, Ethan Olson connected with Kyle Schemp on a 40-yard touchdown pass, finally putting Lincoln on the scoreboard and cutting the Knights’ lead to 13-6.

Hoping to mount a last-minute comeback, Lincoln attempted an onside kick, but O’Gorman was ready. The Knights recovered the kick and entered victory formation to run out the clock, sealing their 13-6 win. With this victory, O’Gorman improves to 1-0 on the season, while Lincoln drops to 0-1.

**Notable Performances:**

O’Gorman Knights:
Jason Trooien: A force on defense, making impactful plays all over the field to keep the Patriots’ offense in check.
Talec Schlimgen: Displayed leadership and athleticism, making crucial runs to escape pressure and maintain control of the game.
Tanner Charron: Came up big with an interception, contributing to the Knights’ defensive dominance.

Lincoln Patriots:
Henry Merkley: Showed versatility on offense with several solid runs, establishing himself as a key athlete for the Patriots.
Nokosi Ringing Shield: Made significant plays in the secondary, anchoring Lincoln’s defensive effort.
Talon Bellmer:Was a standout at linebacker, consistently disrupting O’Gorman’s offense with his all-around play.
Owen Kruse: Recorded an interception, providing a key defensive highlight for the Patriots.

The Knights’ season-opening win sets a positive tone for the rest of their campaign and bright future, while the Patriots will look to build on their promising moments as they prepare for the next challenge.
