Bergen Filmmaker to Shoot Indie in North Jersey
Bergenfield , New Jersey — Bergen County resident and filmmaker, Jerry Dean Hocek, will begin producing his first, full-length independent film titled, Homecoming, in the second quarter of 2024. Hocek has teamed up with Bloomfield, New Jersey cinematographer and film editor, Eric Peña-Tobias, to produce the film, and plans to have the screenplay completed by March 31, 2024. The plot is loosely based on Hocek’s June 2020 unconventional relocation from Teaneck, New Jersey to the Washington Coast, and his recent return to The Garden State.
Most of the production will be filmed on location in Northern New Jersey and possibly Rockland County. Hocek’s inspiration for Homecoming began while living on the slow, largely undeveloped coast of Washington. He states, “I had the proper conditions to do some deeper contemplation to decide what else I wanted to accomplish in my life, and producing a full-length film landed at the top of my list.”
Hocek credits his past experience co-producing short films with friends that worked professionally in the film industry as the seed that spawned his love for filmmaking. “I clearly witnessed how producing a film uplifted the spirit of everyone involved. I believe pursuits that allow us to engage in creative expression can help individuals develop purpose, joy and passion, and can even be instrumental in therapeutic programs. Filmmaking also demands the effective ex*****on of ongoing tasks in a structured process within a team dynamic, which mirrors the work environment in most companies and the military.”
Hocek will document the entire production of Homecoming in a series of ongoing documentary-style, behind-the-scenes video episodes published on his blog at http://www.jerrydeanshow.com/blog and his YouTube channel. The documentary acts as an online video tutorial for those that wish to learn the filmmaking process. The venture is being funded mainly by advertisers and sponsors featured in the documentary footage and product placement opportunities in the film itself. This allows any participating business to write off their contribution as a marketing expense.
Some of Homecoming’s scenes will be filmed in distressed, urban areas of New Jersey, where Hocek plans to focus on introducing young people to the joy of filmmaking, by having them participate hands-on in the production process, so they too can find the inspiration to pursue and nurture creative endeavors.
