We have a new episode! "Pursuing Excellence with Josh Southard"

This week, we interview AOSA President Elect Josh Southard, music teacher for Smoky Row Elementary in Carmel, Indiana. We talk about how pursuing excellence as an elementary music teacher makes sense, even if the financial incentive is not necessarily there in our profession. We also talk about how excellent Orff Schulwerk process teaching looks easy, but it requires a level of skill that a teacher only truly understands once they begin the journey themselves. Come join us!

This week we tried something different: we responded to you!
Or.
One of you.
We got a letter that we felt would resonate with a lot of music educators and responded to it on air. We talk about daily practices, how they have changed, especially since coming back from distance learning.

Do you run similar? Different? Curious to hear your thoughts!

New episode! As we near the end of our 2021 year, Crystal and Jon discuss how they are doing performances. It's not in person, but it's not kids in boxes. We also question what we want to keep and what needs to be removed as are now knee deep of the "after times" of school closures. What are your performances like? It’s been quite a 19 months. The world has been upended. Injustices have been brought to the forefront. Class divides have been stretched. People have been disconnected. As big of a global trauma we’ve undergone together, let us not forget that individually we’ve suffered uniquely. Everyone has tasted these two years differently.

It's been a long year. A long 19 months. For all people, including (and maybe especially) educators. As the year dies down, it's super important to reflect on keeping ourselves sustainable and asking why we feel so drained. Crystal recently led a workshop on burnout resistance and social emotional learning. This episode she shares her thoughts and we have a conversation on ensuring our fire is kept healthily lit. What are your thoughts? Listen and let us know!

It's August! New year, new season. And this is Marc‘s last episode as he’s taken the position of Chula Vista’s Visual and Performing Arts coordinator. Zoe, as well, officially ends her role with Chaotic Harmony. In this episode, we read a message from Zoe, reflect on the many transitions, think on how we’re getting old/don’t understand Zoomer memes, ponder what it means to be maturing in the profession, and look at what is to come during this new season and year. There’s a lot of laughs as well. Join us!
