The 72 year anniversary commemorating the beginning of the Korean War just past. In remembrance of this we want to start sharing pictures we've collected from members of the 213th Field Artillery Battalion from southern Utah. This picture was taken by Corporal Cal Bates of the 213th National Guard Field Artillery Battalion - HQ Battery. CPL Bates has passed away but thanks to his son Jeff Bates we have been able to collect this picture and many more that we will be sharing throughout the next few months. The photos are part of a larger documentary film we are producing about the 213th in Korea, and the battle for Kapyong (Gapyeong) May 1951.

It’s an M7 Priest, so named for the pulpit looking circular turret. It is the then obsolete World War II tracked vehicle that Utah’s 213th Mobile Field Artillery Battalion drove into battle in Korea 1951. We are currently producing a documentary about the men of the 213th and the M7 features prominently in this story. More to come.

Saw this film a couple days ago. It brought back a lot of memories of those weeks in Afghanistan Nov-Dec 2001; the Qala Jangi uprising, death of Mike Span, capture of John Walker Lindh, the hand over of Mohammed Fazl... and his eventual release, one of the Taliban Five sent to Qatar in exchange for SGT Bergdahl.

Flashback to 2003. I remember these British Challenger tanks stopped by Camp Ripper for a visit. The Brits were to follow the US Marines into Iraq and hold some of the southern positions so the Marines could continue the advance to north. Sure enough, the second photo was taken as the Brits were moving in on the Iraqi base the Marines had seized earlier.
