I encourage all of you WWII buffs to know this man. John D Bulkeley. I have met this man only once and corresponded with him twice by letter. It is a privilege to even know his history. It starts long before D Day including as Commander of PT Boat Sq 3 which carried MacArthur from the Philippines. On D Day Bulkeley and his unit would protect the invasion beaches from attack in smaller vessels, mainly so they could prevent E Boat or Schnell Boat attacks on the convoy and landing area. As part of that duty was also life saving. This man would have a career that would be so impressive that A Marine at Gitmo once remarked that his only fault was that could did not make him a Marine. I will post some more photos in another gallery, but know this, this man served our country as an admiral into his 80s, he served in every major conflict and oversaw the development and safety of Navy personnel in Washington and in the shipyards. He was Hands on or not at all.

please remember him and others who served on this special day in our history and the history of every person alive in Europe today.
