On December 26th, the Hmong community lost a trail blazer when Choua Thao passed away. She was one of the few Hmong girls to receive an education as a child in Laos. At the age of 13, she was recruited by the International Voluntary Services (IVS) under the watchful eye of her godfather, Edgar "Pop” Buell, to be the first Hmong nurse in Laos during the secret war.
