“The Okurosho people, a unique tribe in the heart of Akoko Edo, have a rich cultural heritage. Our tribe comprises four communities: Dagbala, OJAH, Makeke, and Ojirami. We speak the Okurosho language and are part of the Okpameri group. We are known for our peaceful nature. This festival, which has been in existence since before our birth, is an important tradition that we continue to celebrate. We inherited it from our ancestors and wish to pass it down to future generations, ensuring its continuation even after we are gone."

THE FIRST MOSQUE IN UNEME COMMUNITY

Enekhua is the Headquarters of North Uneme Clan. The Clan comprises of Akpama, Aiyetoro and Enekhua and unlike Central Uneme that their Clan heardship is rotated among Erhurun, Osu and Ekpedo, North Clan heardship is domiciled in Enekhua.

It will interest you to know that generally, Uneme in Edo State is categorized into two (2); Southern Uneme and Northern Uneme.

The Southern Uneme comprises of Anegbette, Uzanu, Udochi, Imiava/Oghomeze, while Northern Uneme comprises of Six (6) Uneme Communities i.e, Erhurun, Osu, Ekpedo, Akpama, Enekhua and Aiyetoro.

In Northern Uneme, Enekhua is the first Uneme Community to have a Mosque from all available records even in folktales, Enekhua Mosque was built around 1920.

It was about the first Mosque built in North Uneme. Just as Akoko-Edo Grammar School (Akogram) was the first Grammar School in the whole Uneme Community.

Subsequently, we shall give details on the emergence of Islamic faith in Uneme Communities.
