This is the face I make when Iâm on social and I see creators and influencers, or the so called âexpertsâ talking about how to hack the social media algorithms.
Hereâs the real deal friends: on social media channels, every single one of them, there is no hack, there is no easy button.
You do the work, you create the content, test, experiment and if the content doesnât work, you try other content to find out what works for your niche and your audience.
Then, in addition to doing that, you engage on social with your followers and your friends and your audience like your business and your life depends on it.
Itâs that simple. It may not be easy, but it is that simple.
Stop listening to the experts and do the work. And stay creative!

We start with the best of intentions, but get sidetracked by doom scrolling, looking for audio or with a hundred other things that demand our attention
So, how do you stay in a creators mindset and not let those things take you away from creating?
My number one tip is this: each morning, create content before you consume any content.
An email. A post. A graphic. Whatever it is, create something first thing before you start scrolling or consuming.
Do this every day and soon your mindset will focus on creating content more than consuming content.

Just like itâs nearly impossible to stop a runaway train, it is nearly impossible to be on every social platform.
In a recent blog, Seth Godin highlighted the first principle of risk reduction is to figure out if you can stop a train later. If you canât, donât start.
How does this relate to social media? Itâs simple: if you create profiles on every social channel, the time commitment to continously create content, build a following and engage on all platforms will quickly overload even the most seasoned social media managers.
Instead of being everywhere, reduce your risk by selecting the channels that make sense for your business and the ones that you can actively maintain a presence on.

As with my Air Jordan example, people, for the most part, make purchasing decisions based on personal brands, such as Michael Jordan, versus just the brand, such as Nike.
Brands can and many successfully do build a culture that people want to be part of; think Apple. But at the end of the day, there is still a personal brand attached to it, even if that person is no longer around. Think Steve Jobs.
In todayâs marketplace, a personal brand is more important than ever and we all need to do more to build our own personal brand.

Instagram recently updated the algorithm to boost original content, reduces aggregator traction. This has caused brands and social media managers a lot of stress since the updates.
Essentially, original creators may see more engagement, while smaller accounts get equal distribution chance. This means that smaller accounts get an equal chance of their content being discovered and viewed as other accounts.
Instagram stated that these changes could impact overall Instagram engagement, balancing creator satisfaction with user experience.

If you have been following the news, you know President Biden signed the bill that would ban TikTok if ByteDance fails to sell within nine months. He could extend that deadline another 90 days if he chooses to do so.
If the ban goes into effect, as marketers, you need to know what to do. Fortunately the team at Buffer published a good checklist so that you can be prepared. Would you add anything to this list?
1. Download all of your TikTok content. Always a good idea to have a backup, regardless of what happens. How do you do that? Simply click on each video, click the three dots then download.
2. Tell your audience where else they can find you; on other social channels or your website.
3. Update the link in your bio to something that is evergreen, such as your website or a link to sign up for your email newsletter.
4. Review and update your social media marketing strategy to potentially remove TikTok.
And while you are updating your strategy, consider growing your presence on platforms that you have more control over; such as your website, your email newsletter
