Was looking through our video from the July 31 windstorm for the one-month anniversary. Check this out, a large tree fell outside our station during the high winds.
Plus, a recap of those historic storms one month later. #newx #iawx #Omaha #lincoln
WATCH: This is from our R&R Realty Camera located on 192nd and Dodge. Check this out, a fireworks display is going on. However, see those flashing lights in the background? That is lightning from storm that is 110 MILES AWAY!
Quick video update regarding the severe weather potential tonight. This was recorded at 3:30pm.
FIRE SATELLITE: It might be a little hard to see, but this is a satellite view of the three wildfires we are watching.
-Monona County IA (in the bluffs)
-Pottawattamie County IA near I-680 (dead trees)
-Dodge County NE (east of Scribner)
Do not burn anything!
No this is not the opening to a movie.
This is from our skycam overlooking the Missouri River at Rocheport this morning. The fog slowly rolling over the river and the woods is mesmerizing!
SEVERE BREAKDOWN:
EASTERN COUNTIES NOW: The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for our eastern counties including cities like: Mexico, Fulton, Montgomery City, Hermann, Linn, Owensville, etc. until 9 pm. Watching the potential for a few thunderstorms to develop between now-6pm in the aforementioned regions. With any storm that can develop has the potential to remain strong with hail up to 1" and winds in excess of 60mph.
WESTERN COUNTIES (including Columbia): As this cold front continues to move through the chance for severe weather is rapidly decreasing. Areas west of Columbia/Jefferson City will not see severe weather. And the window for the Columbia/Jefferson City area for stronger storms is dwindling fast.
SOUTHERN COUNTIES LATER: As the cold front moves further south later tonight there is the potential that we see re-development over our southern counties such as the Lake of the Ozarks over to Rolla. If any storm can form after 5pm they have the potential to become severe as well. These storms should move out when the front does after dark. Any storm that can develop in this region has the potential of producing 1" hail and 60mph winds.
BOTTOM LINE: If you live along/east of Hwy 54 this afternoon into the evening. Stay tuned to KOMU 8 for further updates throughout the evening. This is not expected to be a widespread outbreak but a few storms can pack a punch.
