The Omaha Police Department has launched its newest public safety initiative: Drones as First Responders (DFR).

“Innovation is at the heart of effective policing," said Chief Todd Schmaderer. "Our new Drones as First Responders program enhances officer safety, improves response times, and provides a powerful new perspective during emergencies, benefiting both our officers and the community we serve. With this program, we are setting a new standard for emergency response”.

At 6:54 a.m., Omaha Fire and Omaha Police were called to 33rd and Dodge Street after a 14-year-old was hit by a car at very slow speeds. The child was transported to the hospital Code 2 with a cut to the cheek.

🎥: Omaha Fire was called back to the area of 48th and Hamilton for a building fire at 7:50 a.m. The same building was on fire at 11:51 p.m. last night. Three people were taken to the hospital from the fire last night. No one needed transport this morning. Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause.

M24 enroute to Nebraska Med Code 3 Trauma with a 30s female. She has black soot around mouth but is awake, alert, oriented. She is coughing up a little bit of blood.

M25 to Neb Med Code 2 with another victim from the fire. He is alert and intoxicated. Not seeing soot or signs of inhalation.

Requesting two more medics.
