📷: Around 1:42 p.m., the Omaha Fire Department was called to a barn fire near Highway 75 and Northern Hills Drive.

OFD Crews battled the blaze alongside the Irvington Volunteer Fire Department, Boys Town Fire and Rescue, Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue, and the Ponca Hills Volunteer Fire Department. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control. The fire was declared under control approximately 30 minutes after crews arrived.

Irvington Fire transported a female in her 50s Code 3 Trauma to Nebraska Medicine who was burned while attempting to rescue horses from the barn. The Nebraska Humane Society was called for an injured cat that was rescued from the fire.

The Omaha Police Department has shared additional information related to Wednesday afternoon’s officer-involved incident.

The deceased suspect has been identified as Juan Melgar-Ayala, 28. Police say Melgar-Ayala was from El Salvador, was not a legal U.S. resident, and had been previously convicted of a felony. Detectives are continuing to investigate how the suspect obtained the firearm used in both shootings on Wednesday. A booking photo of Melgar-Ayala from 2021 has been attached.

Still photos from officers' body worn camera footage have been released and are included below.

The six involved officers have been identified as:

Sergeant Jonathon Holtrop, Uniform Patrol Bureau, 17 years
Sergeant Emilio Luna, Gang Unit, 11 years, sustained a gunshot wound to his foot
Detective Brock Rengo, Assault Unit, 8 years, sustained a grazing gunshot wound to his leg
Detective Jordan Brandt, Gang Unit, 15 years, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg
Detective Christopher Brown, Gang Unit, 19 years, sustained a shrapnel injury to his foot
Detective Kyle Graber, Gang Unit, 11 years

On December 3, 2025, Steven Henry fled the Douglas County Courthouse during a misdemeanor traffic ticket court hearing. He attempted to flee out a fire door but was only able to after destroying the door. He is wanted for Felony criminal mischief and Obstructing government operations.
