"Class Act" (1992) is a comedy film starring Christopher 'Kid' Reid and Christopher 'Play' Martin. This movie is the third film featuring the duo after their success in "House Party" (1990) and "House Party 2" (1991). Despite some of the negative reviews from critics, "Class Act" became a beloved cult classic among fans of the rap duo.

In 1992, there was an influx of major studio-produced black films. For example, "Juice," "Boomerang," "Malcolm X," "Bebe's Kids," and "South Central" all came out in 1992. There was a prominent market for black moviegoers, and the studios were taking full advantage of the popularity. These frenzied productions of black films weren't a new thing. Similar influxes happened in 1971 and 1972 when blaxploitation films started becoming well-known, and notable studio companies jumped on the bandwagon. It also happened again in the early 1940s when race films became popular. So, these cycles are standard and usually happen whenever there is a significant cultural shift among black people. Jumperstarters for each era includes Oscar Micheaux (race film era), Melvin Van Peebles (blaxploitation era), and Spike Lee (modern black cinema).

Yet, "Class Act" was part of a new era of black cinema and possessed all the elements of the early 1990s. The soundtrack was a solid mix between hip-hop and RnB, and Kid 'N Play performed in the movie as they did in their previous two films. Karyn Parsons was in the middle of her success from the show "Fresh Prince," and Alysia Rogers had finished filming "Boyz 'n the Hood" a year before. Rogers' did not pursue much acting after "Class Act." Lamont Johnson continued acting in several movies and TV shows with primarily minor roles. Doug. E. Doug earned a significant role in "Cool Runnings" a year later and continued to appear in several TV shows and movies in the 90s and 2000s. Loretta Devine is likely the most established actress out of all the stars in the film having over 170 acting credits and several award nominations.

Nonetheless, the film is a 90s classic. It's undoubtedly a timepiece that gives a nostalgic feeling of a hip time for black cinema and entertainment.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Today, let us remember Martin Luther King as he was: A Black radical anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, revolutionary Christian internationalist who was deemed an enemy of the State and assassinated for his radical work. Just about everything else is a lie.”
