Mummy’s older than we thought: new find could rewrite history

A new analysis of a Fifth-Dynasty official’s suggests sophisticated embalming techniques are 1,000 years older than previously believed.

The preserved body of a high-ranking nobleman called Khuwy, discovered in 2019, has been found to be far older than assumed and is, in fact, one of the oldest ever discovered. According to hieroglyphs lining the wall of the tomb, Khuwy appears to have been buried in the Fifth Dynasty period that spanned the early 25th to mid-24th century BCE. It dates from the Old Kingdom and proves it About 4,000 years ago, the technology was very advanced.
